Different bodies of water have different amounts of salt. • Estuaries are bodies of water where fresh water and salt water meet. • Lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams are all examples of fresh bodies of water. • Oceans, gulfs, seas, and bays are all examples of salt water bodies.   3. If we test different bodies of water then either the ocean, gulf, sea, or bay would have the highest salinity Hypothesis

  4. Cookie sheet • Oven • 12oz glass canning jars with lids • Metric scale Experiment Materials

  5. Procedure Part 1.make a chart like this

You will be collecting samples from many different locations. • Collect samples from salt and fresh bodies of water that you think have different salinities. • Collect each sample by filling a canning jar with water that you think have different salinities. • Make sure all the water in the jars is filled to the same amount. • Weigh an empty jar with your metric scale in grams. Procedure part 2

  7. Put all of your jars on a cookie sheet in a sunny location. Take the lids off and leave them there. • In the empty jar fill it up to the same height as the other jars with distilled water. • After each jar has dried completely, Weigh each jar in grams. • Subtract the weight of the empty jar from the final weight of each jar you filled with a water sample. • Now divide the amount of salt in gams from the amount of water in liters Procedure part 3
