2. My First Option: A Physical Therapist • What does a physical therapist do? - Rehabilitation/treatment of patients with chronic conditions or injuries by improving their movement and managing their pain.

3. The Working Conditions • Private offices and clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes. • On their feet, actively working with patients.

4. Training, Qualifications, and Advancement Opportunities • Doctoral degree in the field. • Must be licensed. - Renew license on regular basis. • Business minor could enable one to open up their own physical therapy clinic.

5. Salary • $76,310 per year or $36.69 per hour according to the 2010 median pay survey.

6. 2 Perfect Postsecondary Schools • First – Saginaw Valley State University - It’s cheaper than most, and one can major in exercise science or athletic training as well as a minor in business, art, etc. Then – Central Michigan University - It is known statewide for its grad school in physical therapy. - Can earn doctorate degree.

7. Costs for Both “Perfect Choice” Universities • To major in exercise science or athletic training at SVSU: • Michigan Resident - Professional Program Courses:$371.25/cr.hr. • Doctorate degree at CMU: • DHA - Doctor or Health Administration Courses: $850/cr.hr.

8. My Second Option: A Fine Artist • Fine artists use a variety of materials and techniques to create art for sale and exhibition. They include painters, sculptors, and illustrators that create original works of art for their artistic value, rather than a functional one.

9. The Working Conditions • Self-employed • Part-time and variable work schedules are common for artists • Many hold another job in addition to their work as an artist.

10. Training, Qualifications, and Advancement Opportunities • Formal education is rarely required for craft and fine artists – basically just a high school diploma. • Many earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in fine arts– improves skills and job prospects. • Need Portfolio

11. Salary (varies greatly) • $43,470 per year or $20.90 per hour according to the 2010 median pay survey.

12. Perfect Postsecondary School • Kendall College of Art and Design • Undergraduate training in Illustration • Estimated Tuition & Fees: $28,680Based on 15 credits per semester. • Could earn a Bachelor’s or even Master’s Degree

13. So, what are the similarities and differences between my two options? PHYSICAL THERAPIST FINE ARTIST BOTH • Very flexible. • Salary can vary depending on location and value of work. • Harder to find a job. • Usually is one of two jobs for most people. • Requires a great deal more of training. • Highly active work environment. • Easier to find a job. • Salary is more stable and can support better. • In both, a degree can be earned. The further I go in each, the more money.

14. Which one do I prefer? …PHYSICAL THERAPY • Why? • Guaranteed job • The salary is certain and can better support me. • Active • Allows me to work with people.
