  1. Points of Pride

  2. Being a record of some recent achievements in the Academy

  3. TCU accepted "Employer of the Year" award from the North Texas Clean Air Coalition, on October 24, 2008.

  4. Harris College has increased its number of total nursing graduates (includes undergraduate and graduate programs) from 158 in 2006-2007 to 196 in 2007-2008. Social Work Department Chair Dr. David Jenkins began his second year as a Hartford Faculty Scholar, a two-year fellowship focused on enhancing gerontology in undergraduate programs and research. The Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic (MSHC) provided in excess of 2500 hours of speech, language, and hearing services to approximately 200 clients.

  5. Over 300 students from the College of Education have taught abroad (countries include: Canada, Mexico, England, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands). Dr. Cathy Block serves on the Board of Directors for Word Girl, selected as the most outstanding educational television series in 2008. Dr. Block also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas State Reading Association.

  6. Pre-Health Program The acceptance rate into medical and dental schools for the 2008 entering class is currently at 78%. The national average is 43%. Transmission Electron Microscope A new million dollar JOEL Transmission Electron Microscope state-of- the-art instrument has opened new areas of research for faculty in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Research Apprentices Program The RAP program brings students from FWISD to campus for instruction and involvement in science research. This year nine students are involved, the majority of whom will attend college and major in science.

  7. TCU formally opened the TCU Energy Institute and Student Energy Club, June 1, 2008. A new TCU Minor in Energy Technology and Management for "all majors" at TCU, Fall 2008.

  8. The Institute for Environmental Studies (IES) has completed its research station in the cloud forest in Costa Rica. Situated on 100 hectares of rain forest, the station houses 20 students, has two faculty bungalows, and three full-time staff. TCU joins the ranks of several high-profile institutions with field stations, and is unrivaled by universities of similar size in the opportunities for student/faculty instruction and research. The facility allows IES to expand its curricular and research offerings in the field of conservation biology, ecology, environmental science, and sustainability.

  9. The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) named Professor Kay Sanders, Director of the School of Nurse Anesthesia, the 2008 Program Director of the Year. [Currently, there are 108 nurse anesthesia programs, and more than 1,300 affiliated clinical sites in the United States.]

  10. The Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine named their service award the "Joel Mitchell Service Award" to honor kinesiology Department Chair, Dr. Mitchell, for his many years of service to the organization.

  11. TCU Neeley graduates ranked #1 for overall success rate in the July-August testing period for the Uniform CPA Exam in the State of Texas. The results were as follows: i.  TCU – 74% ii. UT Austin – 73% iii. Texas A&M – 69% iv. Baylor – 66% v. Texas Tech – 64%

  12. TCU Creative Team wins top national award Heineken USA recently welcomed members of the Ad Campaigns’ Creative Team to New York to honor them for winning first place in Heineken’s Public Service Advertising Competition.  Pictured are Nick Timmins, Natalie Clarke, Don Blaustein (Heineken USA president), Lindsay Moore and Dan Tearno (Heineken USA senior vice president for corporate relations).

  13. Neeley research is truly international The entrepreneurship program is taking 52 students to Chicago for the national Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization Annual Conference. The TCU CEO chapter is the largest in the country with over 450 members and includes students from all colleges across campus. Two students, Reece Challinor and April Taylor have been accepted to compete in the national CEO Elevator Pitch competition.  Last year TCU student Jacob Watson won the entire competition against over 200 entries from across the country.

  14. Regional Business Economists Competition, First Place: In April, Christina Pereira won the Arthur A. Smith Outstanding Student Award from the DFW Association for Business Economics (DABE). The DABE chairman said that this was the best paper they have ever had in the competition and their vote was unanimous for the first time since the competition was organized. Kudos to Dr. Elliot and Dr. Quinn for giving her research guidance.

  15. A small team of graduate students from the Geology department participated in an international research competition organized by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). Our student team placed third (in the world!), being beaten only by teams from Imperial College in London and the University of Oklahoma, both of which are large schools with world-class petroleum-geology programs.

  16. Green Roof Design TCU graduate students are researching natural and synthetic green roof designs. Fourteen model roofs at the Fort Worth Nature Refuge serve as test platforms, with various growth media, all planted with a variety of native annual and perennial species. The modules are designed to last for several years so that future students can continue this research. The work is intended to inform the budding green roof industry in Texas so that our urban centers can maximize the multiple benefits green roofs have to offer.

  17. The College of Fine Arts Deep Purple Gala, which featured performances by the Jazz Band, Musical Theatre and Dance students, raised $285,000 and was attended by over 330 including some of Fort Worth's most prominent citizens. http://www.music.tcu.edu/images/fa-4430_jpg.jpg

  18. Make a note: ...... Renowned soprano Marilyn Horne will visit the School of Music, March 31-April 2, 2009. The TCU Orchestra and Choir performed Carmina Burana at Bass Hall on Feb. 9, 2009. (The same rousing piece that was used in the Capital Campaign Kick-Off Celebration last spring.)
