Disaster Response • SP 46-2014 Disaster Response • Provides an overview of how to respond to situations with damage or disruptions due to natural or man-made disasters and emergency situations • Eligibility for Free Meals and Disaster Benefits • Using the Summer Food Service Program or Seamless Summer Option in Disaster Situations • Using USDA Foods in Disasters • Flexibilities that require State Agency or FNS Approval

  4. WGR Pasta Flexibility • SP 47-2014: Flexibility for Whole Grain-Rich Pasta in School Years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 • Flexibility for next 2 school years to serve non-WGR pastas • Will require you to complete a waiver

Child Nutrition Database • SP 48-2014 Child Nutrition Database Release 18 (CN 18) • Integral part of the nutrient analysis software approved by USDA. • USDA approved software companies are required to incorporate CN 18 into their products no later than July 1, 2014. • Including grams of sugar • Anyone who does not receive an update with the current CN Database by July 1, 2014, should contact his or her software company.

Area Eligibility Using Census Data • SP 49-2014 Area Eligibility Using Census Data • Supersedes SP 38-2014 (April 21, 2014) • Provides new information on the availability of census data used to establish area eligibility in the CACFP, SFSP, NSLP SSO. • Census Tracts and Census Block Group data available at www.fns.usda.gov/areaeligibility

  7. Smart Snacks Q&A • SP 23- 2014 (v.2) Questions and Answers Related to the “Smart Snacks” Interim final Rule – Revised • Updated June 5, 2014 to include: • Smoothies • Allowable espresso drinks (e.g. lattes) • Soy products • Fruits with added sweeteners • Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

Smart Snacks -Fundraiser Exemption • DPI Mailing dated May 28, 2014 • Exempt Fundraisers in Wisconsin • 2 exempt fundraisers per student organization per year • Clarification: This is per school site • DPI will be following up with the allowable length of an exempt fundraiser • Healthy fundraising ideas: https://schools.healthiergeneration.org/focus_areas/snacks_and_beverages/fundraisers/

  9. DPI reminders • Online Contracts must be reviewed and updated for the 2014-15’ SY by June 20, 2014. • Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) – applications are due by June 30, 2014 to participate starting the 2014-15’ SY. The application can be found at http://fns.dpi.wi.gov/fns_cep.

Team Nutrition WI Foods Taste Testing Sub-grant • Purpose is for schools to incorporate taste testing activities and nutrition education in the cafeteria and/or classroom.  • Funding is available for approximately 30 middle school sites. • Selected schools will be awarded up to $4 per student to participate in sub-grant activities. • Applications must be emailed, faxed, or postmarked by June 20, 2014. • For more information, please visit: http://ne.dpi.wi.gov/ne_tngrant
