  4. Essential Questions • What does it mean to be brave? • What is the relationship between knowledge and power? • Would you ever be willing to risk your life for another person? Under what circumstances might you take this risk? • What does it take to escape oppression? • What are the consequences of being "relocated"? • What emotional dilemmas are families faced with during the time of war? • What leads man to act inhumanely to man? • What civic responsibilities do humans have to one another? • How can I recognize human integrity? • It is possible for me to empathize with those received a lack for human decency? • Why it is important to create an awareness of past historical events?

Enduring Understandings • Historical events have long-lasting consequences. • Bravery can be shown in many different situations and in many different ways. • Dehumanization is the taking away of a person’s self-worth, identity, pride and culture. • Risking personal safety to commit to one’s own beliefs demonstrates moral responsibility. • A person’s reaction to a dilemma can transform their character.
