  3. What is the message? The heart of DDI is figuring out what students need next to be successful. Handout pg.5

  4. Today’s Outcomes: Identify the preparation steps for the data analysis meeting Describe the components of effective one-on-one data meetings & team data meetings

  5. Systemic DDI Cycle Action Handout pg. 3

  6. Analysis The process of identifying patterns of strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed as well as students at the high and low ends that need small group and/ or individual supportas well • Individual Teacher Analysis • Teacher- Principal Analysis Meeting • Grade Level or Team Level Analysis Meeting

  7. ANALYSIS: • IMMEDIATE:Ideal 48 hrs, max 1 wk turnaround • BOTTOM LINE: Includes analysis at question level, standards level and overall—how well did the students do as a whole • TEST-IN-HANDanalysis: Teacher & instructional leader together • TEACHER-OWNEDanalysis • DEEP:Moves beyond “what” to “why” Taken from Driven By Data Handout pg.4

  8. Preparing for the Data Analysis Meeting • Review the assessment given: • What content and skills did the assessment measure? • What common core standards are measured? • Determine how you can represent the data easily for others to view it as well: • How can you quantify the results? • What specific skills will you report? • How can you show how each student scored? Handout pg.6

  9. Analysis • Identify patterns of strengths & weaknesses • Identify standards that students are meeting & standards (or elements of standards) for which students need more targeted instruction & support • Identify whole group needs, small group needs, and individual needs (low & high) Handout pg.4

  10. Review Sample Analysis Plans What do you see? How easy are these to complete? What would teachers need support with? Handout pg.7

  11. Kenyatta outperformed her peers on the first part of the test. • She finished with the lowest score in the class because of her performance on the second half of the test. • If we just looked at her overall score, a conclusion we might make is that she is the weakest academically in the class.

  12. Time to Practice Choose: ELA data chart Math data chart Use Assessment Analysis Questions (pg 9) Handout pg.9

  13. Preparing for the Data Analysis Meeting What are the steps? What is essential for the meeting to be time well spent? What support with teachers & leaders need to prepare for data analysis meetings? Handout pg.8

  14. Principal/Teacher Data Meetings What are you noticing? The Principal? The Teacher?

  15. Time to Practice Use: Tips for Effective Analysis Meetings (pg. 10) Note-taking sheet for the observer (pg.11) Taken from Driven By Data Handout s pgs.10 & 11

  16. Principal/Teacher Data Meetings Role-Play Procedure (ABC)* A- Principal (facilitate the meeting) B- Teacher ( sharing data analysis & action plan thoughts) C- Observer (takes notes to give feedback) *(ABC=Rotate roles) Handout s pgs. 10 & 11

  17. Let’s debrief… What happened? What support would you need? What support would the teacher need?

  18. DDI Implementation Planning Reflection Time: • Where are you now? • What could be next steps? • What support is needed? Action Handout pg.12

  19. Man on Fire The Swim Meet How do we get this for every student? (Keep the focus on student learning…) Handout pg.2

  20. Coming Next for DDI: • December 5 – Analysis Into Action: Using (ISC-A) Common Assessment Results • Norms for collaborative data meetings • Protocols for team data meetings • Developing instructional action plans • Tips for follow-up & support of action plan implementation • (+ anything new we learn in Albany on Nov 3) • On-going follow-up support with regional cluster groups and/ or in-districts

  21. Home Play: • If it fits with what you are doing, choose a group to implement an assessment with before December 5. • Bring the assessment data with you to the December 5 session. If you are not able to do this– not to worry! We will have data you can use.

  22. Ticket Out the Door Take a few minutes to respond to the questions on your “Ticket Out the Door.” The thinking you share will help to guide our next sessions together. Thank you!
