  2. About the Book This is a book that many students can relate to in the story. This is a great book to teach students to learn about Cesar Chaves. The most important concept is how the families were raised when during hard times. Many workers worked from dawn to dusk in an effort to make a living for their family. In fact many members of the family, such as the moms and children helped out in the fields. This lifestyle was a difficult way to live but it comes to prove that with hard work and dedication, anyone can overcome anything as long as they are determined. Illustrator Simón Silva Silva was born in Mexicali, Mexico, and was raised in Holtville, California. He was one of eleven children and by the age of eight he was picking crops. His family became migrant workers, traveling to find work. So he became a migrant student, focusing on his artistic skills and interests to cope with his difficult childhood. He knows the importance of education being the only person in his family to graduate high school and college, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art. He is an artist, author, and speaker of more than 18 years. Simon was from the Imperial Valley and most of us can relate more to the story, since most of us grew up here.
