  1. Charity, Compassion and Determination Charity, compassion , and determination by example. This is what Chief Supt. Marlon Sapla (right), showed us when he brought several patients from Gonzaga, Cagayan (16 hrs. bus ride) to Quezon Circle to have free surgery during the 60th yr. anniv. celebration of ABS-CBN. It was a joint project of the Rotary Club of San Francisco del Monte (RC SFDM), RI Distr.3780 & ABS-CBN. Shown is the picture of Mark John, 7 y/o boy with cleft lip who underwent repair of the lip and nose under local anesthesia inside the Mobile Surgical Unit of the RC SFDM & her mother. Incidentally, it was noted that she’s malnourished & has severe cough. It took several hours and several attempts for Col. Saplato convince the boy to have the surgery done. I have never seen such patience, understanding and persistence as was shown by him. As suggested by Col. Sapla, the mother laid on the OR table with the boy , held the latter’s head while I did the procedure
