  2. Suggestions for Future EU Programs Ocean monitoring is still lacking from fractionation • Multitude of regions • Great variety of platforms • Multiple disciplines Integration can only come from an integration of all three aspects Ocean observatories

  3. Suggestions for Future EU Programs A number of programs have been initiated but continuation is either dependent from continuing EU funding National support is often missing GEOSS could facilitate this situation

Suggestions for Future EU Programs To support the rapid implementation of GEOSS in Ocean Observation Identify observational data that are readibly available Focus on fields of particular interest like biodiversity, geohazards, disaster management Establish or identify an organisational structure that is able to provide sustainable service Introduce data brokers

  5. Suggestions for Future EU Programs GEOSS implementation should be carried out around particular topics, preferably where according infrastructure already exists Examples Harmful algae blooms Observation of changes in fish stock Tsunami events

  6. Suggestions for Future EU Programs With several EU member states being involved either European Agencies like ESA, EEA should provide the sustained service or A dedicated organization has to be founded, for instance an ERIC with distributed data provider

Suggestions for Future EU Programs More particular topics of interest Establish demonstrators preferably with international participation for Demonstrating the usability and effectiveness of developed metadata descriptions Introducing and evaluating quality indicators Demonstrating interoperability

Suggestions for Future EU Programs Concerted action for international cooperation Small to Medium Scale Cooperative projects for implementing sustainable data services Small to Medium Scale Cooperative projects for implementing interoperability between observing systems considering an end- to- end approach
