  18. Project at a glance • Title: How Green is my Firm? • Partners: • Chamber of Commerce of Valencia (COCINV) - Spain • Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) - Turkey • Duration: 12 months • Budget: 139.765 €

Objectives • The overall objectives are creating awareness among the Turkish industrial sectors about the EU Environmental Acquis; contributing to the EU negotiation process on the chapter on environment; disseminating environment-related know-how of Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ICI) to other Turkish regional chambers. • The specific objective is enhancing the environment-related service capacity and adding to the analytical tools of Istanbul Chamber of Industry and Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with EU Chamber from Spain

Activities • Establishing the cooperation with partner Chambers • Assessment of the EU and Turkish environmental legislation for the chemical sector • Finalization of gap analysis & preparing the checklist • Promotion of the Project by press conference and seminar • Selection of companies from chemical sector to be visited • Visiting selected companies in Istanbul and Mersin)

  23. Establishing the cooperation with partner Chamber • Kick-Off Meeting was organized on 5th of February 2009 • Work plan and responsibilities of team members were organized, partnership statement was prepared.

  24. Assessment of the EU and Turkish Environmental Legislation • Assessment of the EU and Turkish Environmental Legislation related to the chemical sector were carried out by Spanish and Turkish experts individually. • The objective is to compare the EU and Turkish Environmental Legislation, find out the similarities and differences between them and to establish the necessary knowledge structure to be able to prepare the checklist which will be one of the most important results of the project.

  25. Finalization of gap analysis & preparing the checklist • Workshop was hold between 24 and 27 of March 2009 • How Green is My Firm Control List was prepared by project team and external experts based on the assessment of EU and Turkish Environmental Legislation.

  26. Promotion of the project by press conference • Press conference was organized on 16 of April 2009. • Representatives of Istanbul Chamber of Industry, Valencia Chamber of Commerce and Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended to the press conference.

Promotion of the project by seminar • Promotion seminar was hold on 16 of April 2009. • Three speakers made presentations on • The Experience of Industry During the Adaptation Process of EU’s Environmental Acquis • Prevention of Pollution: IPPC and Its Implementation • Turkish Chemical Industry and Turkish Environmental Legislation

  28. Selection of companies to be visited & company visits • To implement the control list face to face, company visits were arranged. • 42 companies in Istanbul and 15 companies in Mersin were visited in May and June 2009

Evaluation Report, Need Analysis and Guideline • Based on the results of the How Green is My Firm Control List implemented during company visits, the evaluation report and need analysis are being prepared. • One guideline on Turkish Chemicals Management Legislation is being prepared by local project team.

  30. Training Seminars • 2 Training Seminars, one in Istanbul on 8 of September 2009 and one in Mersin on 10 of September 2009, were organized on the identified need areas.

Training Seminars (continued) • Four speakers made presentations on • Eco-Label Regulation and Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste • Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive and Best Available Techniques • Directives on the Control of Volatile Organic Compound Emissions • Evaluation of Chemical Sector in the Scope of Turkish and EU Environmental Legislation

  32. Training Trip to Valencia • A Training Trip were organized to Valencia for project team and the representatives of the companies that had been visited to implement the checklist in order to see European environmental practices on site between 5 and 9 of October 2009.

  34. Sustainability of the Project • All the work done under the How Green is My Firm Project will be available on our web site. (www.iso.org.tr) • The objective is to be able to spread the knowledge gained during the project as wide as possible and be a reference point for future similar project. • The documents that will be on our web site; • Presentations of promotion/training seminars • How Green is My Firm Control List • Evaluation Report • Guideline etc.
