  3. Climate The temperature is annually 20-25 degrees Celsius. The temperature range during the year reaches as high as 40 degrees Celsius and as low as -18 degrees Celsius The annual precipitation less than 25 cm per year. The form of precipitation is snow or fog.

Producers Prickly Pear, Sagebrush, Saguaro Cactus, Phreatophytes, Halophytes Adaptations: Reduction of leaves, often into spines for protection Development of the stem as a major photosynthetic structure Water storage in the stem Development of defense structures Coating the plant with a thick waxy cuticle A dense coating of hairs (trichomes) Extensive underground root systems

  6. Consumers Bactrian Camel, Zebratail Lizard, Grey Wolf, Lynx, Armadillo Adaptations: Nocturnal Lifestyle Living in Burrows Slender bodies with long limbs Specialized snouts Waxy body coatings Efficient kidneys Eyes protected from the sun

  7. Human Effects On Temperate Desert Development, off-highway vehicle use, livestock overgrazing, construction of roads and utilities, military training exercises, air pollution and the spread of non-native plant species have seriously altered the desert ecosystem over the last century.

  8. What's Being Done To Protect this Biome As of right now the temperate desert biome is not being protected by humans on a large scale.
