  1. One Building, One Body Ephesians 2:19-3:6 By David Turner www.BibleStudies-Online.com

  2. Without Christ we were: • Dead in our trespasses and sins (2:1) • By nature children of wrath (2:3) • Gentiles in the flesh (2:11) • Separated from Christ (2:12) • Alienated from the commonwealth of Israel (2:12). • Strangers to the covenants of promise (2:12) • Without hope and without God (2:12)

  3. In Christ (the mystery) • We Gentiles are brought near by the blood of Christ (2:13). • Christ is our peace (2:14). • The dividing wall between Jew and Gentile has been destroyed creating one new man (2:14). • Jew and Gentile are reconciled into one body through the cross (2:16). • Christ has killed the hostility between Jew and Gentile (2:16). • Both Jew and Gentile through one Spirit have access to the Father (2:18). • We who were once called Gentiles are no longer strangers and aliens (2:19).

  4. We who are In Christ: • Jew and Gentile together: • (One Building) Are fellow citizens in the household of God (2:19) • (One Body) Are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise (3:6). God is Building A Home for Himself. God is a Body Builder.

  5. Ephesians 2:19–3:6 (ESV) God is Building His Home 19So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

  6. Ephesians 2:19–3:6 God Is a Body Builder 3 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

  7. Eph. 2:19-22 The Mystery of one building

  8. Fellow citizens and Family members 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, • Non Jews • No longer strangers • No longer aliens • Believing Gentiles are fellow citizens . • Believing Gentiles are family members.

  9. Christ is the foundation 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, • Not a physical Temple • It is a Spiritual Temple with: • Foundation: apostles and Prophets • Cornerstone: Christ Jesus himself

  10. A building under construction 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord • It is growing • It is holy • It is in The Lord

  11. The Dwelling Place of God. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. • You Gentiles are also being built together with believing Jews into the dwelling place of God. • The dwelling place is not a building. God’s people are the building. • It is the dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

  12. Eph. 3:1-6 The mystery of one body

  13. Paul: The Steward of the Mystery 3 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, • Paul: • Prisoner for Christ Jesus • On behalf of the Gentiles • The steward of the Gospel of Grace for the Gentiles.

  14. It’s A Mystery 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. • How was the mystery made known to Paul? • By revelation.

  15. Mystery is given to us 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. • We receive the mystery through Paul and the apostles. • It was not available in previous generations to the Jews. • It has now been revealed to the apostles and NT prophets by the Spirit.

  16. Mystery Is: 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. • What is this mystery? • Gentiles are fellow heirs • Members together with believing Jews in the same body (Christ). • Partakers of the Promise • In Christ Jesus • Through the gospel.

  17. The Good News Christ died for all (Jew and Non-Jew), that all might come to Him and be saved.
