  1. Warm-up Jan. 9 • 5. What are the 4 movable joints in our body and where are each found? (349) Write the question and complete answer Science Fair Jan. 13 District Assessment in 88 days April 4th

  2. Warm-up Jan. 10 6. Which of the following is not a function of the skeletal system? • Protects internal organs • Produce blood cells • Stores minerals • None of the above Write the question and complete answer Science Fair Jan. 13 District Assessment in 87 days April 4th

  3. Warm-up Jan. 11 • What types of muscles are B and C? • What is the function of the skeletal muscle? • Make blood cells • Allows you to move • Stores minerals • All of the above

  4. Warm-up Jan. 12 9. Which is the strong connective tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone (182,354) • Cartilage • Joint • Tendon • Ligament Write the question and complete answer Science Fair Jan. 13 District Assessment in 85 days April 4th

  5. Warm-up Jan. 13 10. Tendons and ligaments are tissues that act like which of the following things. • Hinge in the door • Legs of the chair • Door in the classroom • Batteries in the flash light

  6. Tendon Ligament

  7. Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Femur ACL Tibia

  8. Achilles tendon

  9. Identify as ligament, tendon, or both • Acts like a door hinge • Part of the neuromuscular system • Connects bones to muscle • Acts like shock absorber • Helps in movement

  10. Videos • http://player.discoveryeducation.com/?blnPreviewOnly=1&guidAssetId=7f8228b1-90ef-484e-af65-7b8fc7120591 • http://player.discoveryeducation.com/?blnPreviewOnly=1&guidAssetId=663e261c-98b2-4494-9760-26acf02e96ef

  11. Identify from the clue as smooth, skeletal, or cardiac muscle. There may be more than one muscle. • 1. Muscle attach to the bone • 2. Tire quickly • 3. Found in stomach and blood vessels • 4. Not striated muscle (no bands) • 5. Voluntary muscle • 6. Involuntary muscle • 7. Found in heart • 8. React slowly • 9. Does not get tired • 10. Striated muscle (have bands)

  12. On a sheet of paper identify asskeletal, smooth, or cardiac muscle • Voluntary muscle • Involuntary muscle • Muscles that are control by conscious thought • Muscle attach to the bone • Found in stomach and blood vessels • Found in heart • Found in legs and arms • Breathing and digesting food • Striated muscles • Playing basketball • React quickly • React slowly • Tire quickly • Tire more slowly • Does not get tired

  13. Muscle Fatigue Lab • On a separate sheet of paper, write your name, period and date and title muscle fatigue lab • Read aloud the introduction • Copy the problem on your paper • Write your hypothesis on your paper • Copy the materials on your paper • Read aloud the procedures • Copy the observation table and fill it in with numbers • Construct 2 bar graphs (number of fists, number of arm lifts) • Answer in complete sentences the conclusion questions

  14. Why do skeletal muscles get tired? • Calcium is leaking from muscle cells as calcium is necessary which weakens the muscles. • Less oxygenated blood (bleeding, tight clothing). Oxygen is required for the muscle to work optimally.

  15. Why does your heart never gets tired? • There are more mitochondria in the cardiac muscle than in any other muscle. Remember the function of the mitochondria is to make energy for the cell. More mitochondria means more energy and the cardiac muscle does not get tired.

  16. Muscle categorizing

  17. Watch the video • 3 types of muscles • Skeletal • Cardiac • Smooth • How muscles work together in pairs

  18. Using the information from the 3 column section, draw a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting skeletal muscle, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle

  19. Smooth muscle Skeletal muscle
