2. School Day • 8:00 – 3:15 • If your child will be absent, call absent line 281-641-3019 with symptoms. • Parent Note: Unless you send a note, the absence will be unexcused after 2 days. • Lunch: 11:20-11:50 • Conference Period: 2:10-3:05

5. Breakfast/Lunch • Breakfast: $1.20 • Extra Milk: $0.40 • Lunch: $1.85 • Lunch Hotline: 281-641-5838 • We will be eating lunch on early release days!

6. For safety reasons, ALL visitors MUST sign in at the office!

7. TRANSPORTATION • Send a note with your child if they are leaving early or have a change in transportation. • If the change in transportation involves riding a different bus, you MUST call the bus barn at 281-641-8720 in advance. • Fill out transportation information sheet and turn in to teacher before leaving.

8. Birthdays • No food items. • Pencils, stickers, erasers . . . for all students in class. • No invitations.

9. Homework Homework packets will be given on Mondays and to be completed at your child's own pace. Parents and students, please sign the Homework Sheet, and have your child turn in completed homework on Friday. There will be no homework the first week of school.

10. Daily Folder • Your child will have a daily folder. • It will have a daily conduct sheet. Please initial/sign each night. • Please remove completed work from the folder. • Please make sure your child brings the folder back to school every day.

11. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ • Activity Fee: $25 to school for purchase of classroom consumables • Celebration Fee: $10 to PTO to fund classroom celebrations • Field trip money will be charged separately. Be sure to head to cafeteria for important PTO information!

12. Note: Friday August 27th will be an early release day. Dismissal will start at 11:25 a.m.

14. Grade Scale: 1 - 4 • 1 = Below Basic (below standard performance) • 2 = Basic (beginning to meet grade level standard) • 3 = Proficient (mastery of grade level standard) This is an A!!!! • 4 = Advanced (above grade level performance)

15. Assignment: Bake a Cake • Score: 1 (What is it?) • Score 3 (That’s a good cake.) • Score: 2 (Ok, it’s a cupcake. We’re getting there.) • Score: 4 (Shazam!!)

17. Decoding (“Accuracy”) (What to do when you get stuck on a word): • Look at text features: title, illustrations, captions for clues. • Get mouth ready for beginning sound. • Look at chunks/parts of words. • Think about what makes sense. • Re-read. • Read on; then go back.

18. Fluency Fluency Comprehension Decoding Fluency forms a bridge to comprehension.

Comprehension: • Recognizing story elements: characters, setting, problem, solution (fiction) • Appreciating & using text features: titles, maps, charts, graphs, captions, etc. (non-fiction) • Distinguishing between fiction and non-fiction • Making connections to self, other texts, the world • Creating mental images • Asking relevant questions (I wonder . . . ) • Making inferences • Making predictions • Deriving the meaning of new words from context clues • Recognizing the author’s purpose • Uncovering non-explicit meaning in texts • Synthesizing all of the above to understand text

29. A note about the Directory • If you decline adding your child to the directory, we cannot include them in class photos and the yearbook. • Please direct any questions about this to the front office.

What is “My School's Cool?” • My School's Cool (MSC) is a special community-driven program committed to building relationships with local schools in the Humble Independent School District. • Schools will compete with each other for the highest accumulation of points and earn cash rewards. • My School’s Cool is a full year marketing program that runs from August through May.

32. Shopping at Deerbrook Mall • Each dollar spent at Deerbrook Mall earns one point. • Receipts will be rounded to the next dollar at .51 cents. • There will be opportunities to earn double points which include double point retailers and double point events.

33. How To Redeem Points There are two ways for shoppers to redeem points. • MSC Redemption Display – Customers can simply write the name of the school on the back of their store receipt and place it in the designated slot or bin for their school at the Deerbrook Mall MSC display. If a customer wishes to retain their mall receipt, they can request a point pass from the Deerbrook Mall Office or Barnes & Noble Customer Service and place the point pass in the appropriate locker for their school or take to the participating school. • Participating Schools – Each school is requested to have a location for parents, students, and teachers to drop off their receipts or point passes to designated School Coordinator.
