Working together differently in disaster carried forward • Funders liked the idea of co-funding in a coordinated manner without giving up autonomy. • 10 Local Funders • 16 Grants • 30 Agencies • $675,000 in grants • 1 RFP Habitat and UW kept Partnering Habitat & UW sharing clients, Case Management, matching funds to increase families housed

Little Things Became the Seeds of Big Relationships • Sending a Generator to Walker County • Hours after the storm a Foundation in one of our counties needed power to run its response center • We now partner on multiple projects including: • Blueprint for School Readiness • Success by Six classrooms • Walker County Health Action Partnership • Christian Service Mission Needed a Stump Grinder! • They had lots of men who could work one • We bought them one • It helped turn an organization cautious about • UW to a Friend and Advocate • Today we partner with them and the faith groups they work with across our City.

  12. Lessons that Carried Forward • Donors will give more if the need is well defined and urgent and the plan is solid • Collaborative Funding is a great way to create community alignment around projects. Co-authoring RFPs are a great way to create alignment with out giving up autonomy. • Tending to the new relationships made during a disaster can lead to bigger collaborative projects in the future. • Being open to risk taking and being generous with little things open doors to relationships that are often closed.
