WHAT IS VOCATIONAL SERVICE? • Vocational Service, the second Avenue of Service. • Has the purpose of promoting high ethical standards in businesses and professions, recognizing the worthiness of all dignified occupation. • The role of members includes conducting themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary’s principles.

  3. MILESTONES • ONE OF THE DISTINGUISHING FEATURE OF ROTARY IS ITS MEMBERSHIP BASED ON CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLE. • THE IDEA OF PAUL HARRIS WAS TO FORM A CLUB DRAWING, ONE MEMBER EACH FROM EACH PROFESSION . • ROTARYS ADOPTION OF THE SLOGAN HE PROFITS MOST WHO SERVES BEST(1911), BY ARTHUR FREDRDRICK SHELDON CAN BE CONSIDERED AS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS THE EVOLVEMENT OF VOCATIONAL SERVICE

  4. ROTARY SAW A WORLD OF MEANING IN THE FOUR SIMPLE QUESTIONS THAT HERBERT TAYLOR ASKED,THE 4 WAY TEST • THE FOUR WAY TEST CAN ENSURE HIGH ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR INDIVIDUALS,INDUSTRIES,AND INSTITIUTIONS. • HIGH ETHICAL PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS ARE A FUNDAMENTAL ASPECT OF ROTARY MEMBERSHIP.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE GIVES ROTARY ITS INDIVIDUALITY,CREDIBILITY AND INTEGRITY. • NEXT MILESTONE WAS THE ADOPTION OF A CODE OF ETHICS IN 1915. • PAUL HARRIS WROTE ‘OF ALL THE 101 WAYS IN WHICH MEN CAN MAKE THEMSELVES USEFUL TO SOCIETY, UNDOUBTEDLY THE MOST AVAILABLE AND MOST EFFECTIVE ARE WITHIN THE SPHERES OF THEIR OWN OCCUPATIONS’

  6. .Vocational service expects Rotarians to act, perform, behave, work, deal and conduct oneself in a manner which will allow him or her to be an example to others in the community,workplace and family. • His knowledge and experience gives each club the resources to complete projects that address all aspects of the second Avenue of Vocational Service.

WHY VOCATION IN ROTARY? • Vocational Service evolved from the classifications principle. • A feature originally unique to Rotary that limits active membership to one representative from each business or profession. • This one-member, one-classification system remains the basis for each Rotarian's personal obligation in Vocational Service. • To serve as a representative of that classification within the club.

This knowledge and experience gives each club the resources to complete projects that address all aspects of the second Avenue of Vocational Service. .One of the more famous features of Vocational Service is the “Four Way test” • INTRODUCED BY HERBERT TAYLOR IN 1932 • ACCEPTED BY RI AS PART OF VOCATIONAL SERVICE IN 1943.

  9. FOUR WAY TEST • Of the things we think, say or do • 1) Is it the TRUTH? • 2) Is it FAIRto all concerned? • 3) Will it build GOODWILLandBETTER FRIENDSHIPS? • 4) Will it be BENEFICIALto all concerned

  10. Inherent in the Vocational Service Ideal are: • 1. Adherence to, and promotion of, the highest ethical standards in all occupations • 2. The recognition of the worthiness to society of all useful occupations. • 3. The contribution of one's vocational talents to the problems and needs of society

OCTOBER-VOCATIONAL SERVICE MONTH • THOUGH VOCATIONAL SERVICE PRINCIPLES ARE TO BE ADHERED 24X7,365 DAYS,BY INDIVIDUAL ROTATRIAN ,OCTOBER IS EARMARKED FOR CLUB ACTIVITIES IN THIS AREA • DURING THIS MONTH CLUBS CAN ARRANGE VARIOUS ACTIVITIES LIKE CLASSIFICATION TALKS,VOCATIONAL TOURS AT WORK PLACES,EMPLOYE-EMPLOYER SEMINARS,CARRIER GUIDENCE,VOCATIONAL AWARDS ETC..
