  4. Why? GOALS • Get an insight of ways and habbits of using IT in Croatian Academic Community. • Check the level of awareness and skills on “informatic” knowledges and skills, determine the most acceptable ways of receiveing IT knowledge. • Find out perception and evaluation of CARNet and specific CARNet services. • Get directions for promotion CARNet services and recommend optimal research ways that would serve to this causes TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

METHODOLOGY 1/2 • Qualitative part - 4 focus groups • Edupoint courses participants • 3 groups of student participating at regular courses - regional: Osijek, Rijeka, Split • group of professors participating at in-house courses in Zagreb (semistructured interview) • Quantitative – survey questionnaire • Representative excerpt of 1400 members of Academic and Research Community • 1000 students, 300 professors, 100 researchers • Osijek, Rijeka, Split, Zagreb TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

METHODOLOGY 2/2 • Focus groups • Explanation of answers decreases missinterepretation, • Participants interact and participate more • Results can not be interpreted as general • Survey • Low reliability of small groups’ answers • Results should be looked at as a whole, comparing basic foundings and trends TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

  7. What we found out....on CARNet? • More than 40% of students heard about CARNet, but could not list its services • cca 45% professors knows that an e-mail account is among CARNet basic ervice • cca 12% researchers relates CARNet with educational services TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

  8. ...on perception of CARNet? • cca 65% of students perceives CARNet as a part of Academic Community • cca 15% professors perceives CARNet as a part of government TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

  9. ...about “IT literacy” • cca 90% members of Academic Community (feels that they) know how to use MS Win • cca 80% members of Academic Community (feels that they)have skills of Communication via Internet • cca 70% can organize thier desktop and change screen resolution TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

  10. ...about interest for eLearning • cca 40% professors and cca 20% of students are interested in teaching/learning via Internet • More than 35% of students misses the personal approach and interactivness • Almost 35% of teachers points out higher quality of eLearning as a big advantage TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

  11. ...About previous experience and prefered ways of accepting new knowledges • cca 50% participants of the Academic Community learned how to use IT in an extremely selfhandidly way • cca 18% professors would prefer f2f courses in order to fill the knowledge gap at IT field TERENA TF – PR, Lyngby, Denmark

What else did we find out... • How known are specific CARNet services • How many users stopped using modem entrances • How many students use Linux • How many teachers read Edupoint on-line magazine • Which promotional activities of CARNet drow most attention • And a lot more...
