Talbert House: Comprehensive Services for Behavioral Health and Parenting

Talbert House provides services in Ohio to improve social behavior, enhance personal recovery, and support healthy parenting. We serve adults and youth with behavioral health issues, provide community care and support for court and corrections, and offer housing services. Our New Beginnings for New Fathers program offers core services such as intake and assessment, case management, curriculum facilitation, employment services, legal assistance, parent/child enrichment activities, and co-parenting support.   2. Mission Services have two basic purposes: To improve social behavior To enhance personal recovery and growth

  3. Fiscal Year 2017 • Provided services in Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, and Warren counties in Ohio • Served almost 36,000 children, adolescents, and adults face-to-face • An additional 34,000 were reached through prevention services

  4. Who We Serve Adult Behavioral Health Adults with behavioral health issues including mental health and substance use Community Care Children, adolescents, and adults with employment and behavioral health care needs Court and Corrections Adult offenders involved in the criminal justice system and their families Youth Behavioral Health Youth with behavioral health issues including mental health and substance use, and their families Housing Transitional Youth, adults, and families who need housing and other support services

The Fatherhood Project’s History • Started as a program of Services United for Mothers & Adolescents (SUMA) back in 1998. • Original concept was to serve teen fathers. • Funded by the O’Neill Foundation out of Cleveland. • United Way of Greater Cincinnati. • Transition to Talbert House on July 1, 2008.

New Beginnings for New Fathers Program Talbert House’s goal is to provide comprehensive services to both moms and dads, that are designed to improve parenting competencies while fostering healthy communication and co-parenting relationships. Services will be targeted to prevent abuse and neglect, promote child development, spacing and safe sleep.

  7. CORE Services • Intake and Assessment • Case Management • Curriculum Facilitation • Employment Services • Legal Assistance • Father/Child Enrichment Activities • Co-Parenting

  8. Intake, Assessment and Enrollment • Eligible fathers will complete the intake and assessment process. • Each father will complete the orientation process. • Each father completing the orientation process will be considered enrolled and served.

  9. Case Management • Talbert House will provide services to 250 eligible fathers. • Beech Acres will provide services to 80 mothers. • Services are available to step-parents.

  10. On My Shoulders Thursdays Morning: 10:00am – 2:00pm 3 units per session/ 4.5 sessions (days) Evening: 6:00pm – 8:00pm 1-2 units per session/approx. 9-10 sessions (days) Money Smart, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention will be integrated into the curriculum.

  11. Love Notes Tuesdays 4:00pm – 6:00pm Out in the community as needed and requested. Money Smart, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention, P.A.T.T.H.S and Breast for Success will be integrated into curriculum.

  12. Employment Services • Job readiness and placement. • Subsidized employment. • Employment service working hand-and-hand with case management.

  13. Legal Services • Providing education around family law related issues. • Provide advice to fathers and families seeking these services. • Encouraging parenting plans. • Encouraging child support orders. • Working close with co-parenting contractor.

  14. Co-Parenting Coordinator • Engage interest in Co-parenting sessions. • Facilitate Co-Parenting Sessions. • Refer mom to Beech Acres for case management. • Routine follow-up. • Facilitate On My Shoulders.
