Geography • Latin America is southeast of the U.S • Latin America is west of Africa • Central America connects Latin America to the U.S • The Pacific Ocean borders Latin America on the west • The Atlantic Ocean Borders Latin America on the East • The Andes Mountains are located in Latin America

Politics • Present day Latin America is partially democratic • Latin America suffered economically during the 1930’s • Social injustices were abundant in the 1980’s • Due to social injustices life expectancies are poor • Latin American leaders vary from presidents to dictators • Felipe Calderon’ is a president, Fidel Castro was a Dictator

  4. Religion • Majority of Latin Americans are Christian • Latin America’s most popular denomination is Roman Catholicism • Roman Catholicism was influenced by Europeans • Northern Latin America is predominantly Protestant. • Muslim Religion is the most increasing. • Buddhism is the least prevalent.

  5. Language • Spanish is the dominant language • Every country has their own dialect • Spanish was given by the Spaniards. • Portuguese is only spoken in Brazil. • Brazil is the larges country in the Region. • French is also a common language spoken.

  6. Food • The cuisine varies by area. • Most dishes are maize-based • Tortilla and tamales are famous maize dishes • Salsa guacamole, pico de gallo, are popular condiments • Pork is the most common meat • The food is typically spicy

  7. Music and Dance • The most famous music is tango. • Tango is also the most famous dance. • Present dances are bachata and reggeton. • Most dances are performed with a partner. • Most Latino music is about love.

History • Latin America has been populated for several millennia. • Highly-developed civilizations have flourished historically. • Christopher Columbus landed in Latin America. • The Portuguese built their empire in Brazil. • Latin America achieved independence in 1825. • Early colonies included Aztec, Inca and Maya.

  9. Present Day • Since 2000 Latin American politics modernized. • Hugo Chavez is president in Venezuela • Economic standards are now considered standard • Socialist politicians are present now days. • Several socialist leaders are in power. • The U.S has attempted helping modernization.

  10. Why It Interests Me • I admire Latin American culture. • Latin American language is spoken frequently in America. • Latin Americans are extremely attractive  • Latin America has many African influences • Latin America has beautiful landscape.
