  17. Between Ezekiel 34.1 and the “woes” from the Son of Man 600 years had elapsed and nothing had changed.

  18. Ezekiel 34:1-2 • Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! • should not the shepherds feed the flocks?

  19. Let’s Look @ Paul’s Use of “feed” in Acts 20

  29. Ezekiel 34:4a • The diseased have ye not strengthened, • neither have ye healed that which was sick, • neither have ye bound up that which was broken, • neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, • neither have ye sought that which was lost;

  30. Shepherds Shepherd

  31. Shepherds have a responsibility to keep the sheep from wandering away from the fold.

  32. Ezekiel 34:4b Jesus commands a completely different leadership style for the Apostles—and by extension all future shepherds. • but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.

  36. Ezekiel 34:6 So God Does It! • My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.

  37. Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Let’s look @ Luke 15:4-7

  38. What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

  39. Luke 15:7 • I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

  40. Question What other religion has its God seeking out sheep for salvation?

  41. Ezekiel 34:7-8 • Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; • As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;

  42. The Shepherds’ Failure Results in Divine Judgment (v. 9-10)

  43. Ezekiel 34:9–10 • Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.
