  2. Check and Re-check! • Number of Credits • Required Courses • Qualifications for Honors & Seals • GHSGT requirements

  3. Number of Credits You must have a minimum of 23 credits to receive a diploma from Douglas County School System.

  4. Required Courses • 4 credits of English (one must be American Lit) • 4 credits of Math • 4 credits of Science • 3 credits of Social Studies (4 courses) • ½ credit Health and ½ credit Personal Fitness • 3 Elective credits from CTAE, Fine Arts or Foreign Language

  6. Foreign Language Alert! • Foreign Language is no longer required for graduation. • 2 and 4 year colleges still require 2 credits of the same foreign language for admissions.

  7. HOPE Information PROGRAMS— • Scholarship—3.0 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP) calculated at the end of senior year; covers a percentage of the tuition (see website); no money for books or fees. Also need to have taken two rigorous courses. • Zell Miller—3.7 in core classes (take off extra points for Honors/AP), 1200 SAT verbal & math, covers full tuition, calculated at end of senior year; no money for books or fees. • Grant—available for students seeking certificate or diploma at a Technical College; covers percentage of tuition.   8. Honors • Honor Grad • 3.75 cumulative GPA • No F’s • Maximum credits • 5 academic courses Senior year • 2 credits of Foreign Language • Board Scholar • 3.5 cumulative GPA • No F’s • Maximum credits • 1 extra academic course + 2 Foreign Language

Seals • Fine Arts • 4 credits (Band, Visual Arts, Chorus or Drama) • 2 credits must be from same discipline • Foreign Language - 4 credits of the same foreign language • Academic Seal • 3 Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment credits • 3 Certificate completions from technical school dual enrollment program

  10. GHSWT You must pass the Writing Georgia High School Graduation test (must score at least 200) --to receive DIPLOMA --to walk in May

Mark Your Calendar! • Sept 16 – PROBE College Fair – Arbor Place Mall www.gotocollegefair.com • Sept 18 – Senior Parent Night • Sept 19 – Brag Sheets due to the Career Center • Oct 11 – SAT @ DCHS • Oct 15 – UGA Early Decision deadline • Oct 15 – ASVAB @CHHS • Nov 8 – SAT @ CHHS • Nov 20 – Apply To College Day @ CHHS

  13. Sign and Date It! • Sign your Credit Summary. • Let your counselor know if you have any questions/concerns (blue forms).

WALKER in the CAREER CENTER • *Register now for the fall SAT/ACT's • *Waivers (Test/college Application) • * Transcripts • * College visitation days • *Apply to 3-5 schools by Christmas break (online ) • * Probe Fair (9/16/2014) at Arbor Place / Register for barcode • *Apply to College Day (11/20/2014) / Sign up now during Senior Verification. • *Scholarships (Newsletter, CHHS Website, in CCC) • DO NOT WAIT / HAVE A PLAN (and backup plan)!!
