  1. Welcome to Abbey Road Primary School, West Bridgford, Nottingham, England.

  2. Let’s have a look at some typical English dishes. Maybe you know some of them already.

  3. Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. • This is traditionally eaten for Sunday lunch.

  4. Fish and chips were traditionally sold wrapped in newspaper. • Not many fish and chip shops serve them like this nowadays.

  5. ‘Bangers and mash’ is still a very popular English dish. • ‘Bangers’ are sausages and ‘mash’ is mashed potatoes.

  6. Steak and kidney pie has a delicious pastry crust. • Do you know what ‘steak’ is? What about ‘kidneys’?

  7. Cottage pie is made with beef. • It is covered with mashed potato and baked in the oven.

  8. Shepherd’s pie is very similar, • but instead of beef, lamb is used.

  9. Toad in the hole. • This is sausages baked in a batter made from eggs, flour and milk.

  10. Now let’s have a look at some typical English desserts and puddings. Can you think of any? There are so many. Here are just a few of them.

  11. Apple Crumble and custard. • (You can use other fruits as well – rhubarb crumble is delicious too.)

  12. Sticky toffee pudding. • You can eat this with custard, cream, ice cream, or just on its own.

  13. Lemon meringue pie. • The meringue is sweet, light and fluffy.

  14. Bread and butter pudding. • Traditionally, this was made with left-over bread.

  15. Treacle tart. • Treacle is very, very sweet!

  16. Spotted dick. • This is another pudding often eaten with custard.

  17. Eaton mess. • Cream, fruit and meringue. Yum yum!

  18. Are you hungry now? • Why don’t you get some help to make one of these dishes at home?
