Olympics27 July – 12 August – biggest sporting event in the world (9 m tickets) Paralympics 29 August – 9 September – 3rd biggest sporting event in the world (2 m tickets) For Olympics: • Estimated 28% of tickets from the South of the UK (approx 150,000 per day) • Overall estimate of people in Kent at busiest 24 hour periods of the Olympic Games is 200,000+ (resident population in Kent and Medway is 1.7 million)

Transport to Venues • Ebbsfleet9 ½ minutes to Olympic Park (official London 2012 Park and Rail service, up to 14,000 passengers every hour) • Extended peak and longer operating hours: Morning peak 7:30 -10:00, afternoon 17:00 – 19:00, evening peak 20:00-23:00 • Discouraging car travel to venues (except blue badge) • 80% will travel by rail • 2012 Games coach services • Port of Dover and Channel Tunnel at capacity • Strategic and local Park-&-Ridesites

7. What does this mean for Kent? • All Hotel, B&B, Guest Houses, camping and caravanning sites will be full • Different timetables for trains and, in some areas, buses • Much more traffic – rail and roads will be very busy • Getting around will take longer • Supply chain may be affected

8. Paralympics Ticketed spectators from Europe • 60,000 tickets to overseas spectators • 95% of overseas spectators from Europe • France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium account for almost 70% of all overseas spectators • Peak overseas arrivals 3,500 spectators onDay 2 & 3 • Larger groups (schools and special needs groups) • Increased wheelchair seating capacity at venues

Paralympic road cycling at Brands Hatch/ West Kingsdown 3-8 Sept.(+ training day on 19 June) • Road closures: A20 near entrance to Brands Hatch to Scratchers Lane, Scratchers Lane and Fawkham Road closed • Extensive diversion viaA25, A225 • Local access toWest Kingsdown and local traffic management • All local businesses informed • Leaflet to residents w/c 21 May

Way forward – prepare from NOWfor business as usual and higher demand • Ensure adequate staff cover throughout • Ensure most vulnerable clients identified • Know about the expected impact on traffic and transport – everything will take longer • Ensure all staff are aware of contingency plans • Consider buddy arrangements for service delivery if necessary • Adjust staff rotas if necessary • Ensure supply chain resilience • Keep Olympics resilience on the agenda
