  2. Why Do We Have A Safe Driver Plan Requirement? • Became a requirement of the State Board of Education sometime in 1989-1990 • Is located in Rule 6A-3.0141, Florida Administrative Code (State Board of Education Rules). • A need to hold school bus operators to a higher standard of safety was identified. • Expectations and consequences of job functions/responsibilities needed to be clearly understood. • In order to promote fairness among employees, a district standard was determined to be necessary for all school bus operators.

  3. What Should Be Included In A Safe Driver Plan? • Purpose/Goal/Mission Statement. • Identify the responsible person to administer the safe driver plan. • Should identify all of the operational requirements for an applicant. • Should identify all of the operational requirements for an active school bus operator (Regular, ESE and Substitute). • Some districts expand the Safe Driver Plan to other district personnel.

  4. What Should Be Included In A Safe Driver Plan? (con’t) • A clearly identified method for holding school bus operators accountable for their actions while performing their job duties. • A clearly identified listing of consequences for different violations • A clearly identified method of tracking and documenting the violations of school bus operators • A clearly identified application of the Safe Driver Plan. • Should address causes for suspension and/or termination of employment. • Should identify law and rules that govern the responsibilities and consequences.

  5. What Should Be Included In A Safe Driver Plan? (con’t) • A acknowledgement sheet identifiying that the operator understands the Safe Driver Plan. • The school bus operator should sign and date the acknowledgement sheet. • Transportation/Personnel staff should place the acknowledgement sheet in the employees training or personnel file. • The Safe Driver Plan should be reviewed and revised periodcially, presented again to employees, and a new acknowledgement sheet be signed.
