  2. Just as the ocean floor can be divided into sections, the ocean can be divided into zones. Ocean zones include the intertidal zone, the neritic zone, and the open-ocean zone.

  3. Intertidal Zone Open Ocean Zone Neritic Zone

  4. At the highest high-tide line, the intertidal zone begins. The intertidal zone stretches out to the point exposed by the lowest low tide.

  5. The Neritic Zone is the region that receives lots of sunlight and extends to a depth of about 200 meters. The neritic zone has a stable water temperature and is where most of the world’s greatest fishing areas and many different types of seaweeds and sea grasses are located.

  6. The open ocean, or pelagic zone, is the area of the ocean outside of coastal areas, and where you’ll find some of the biggest marine life species. This zone includes the deepest, darkest part of the ocean.
