  2. How Is Jesus’ Death A Pattern For Our Lives? • Pattern of self-denial and dedicated life to God • Pattern for loving one another • Pattern for humility and obedience • Pattern for trusting God while suffering

  3. Introduction • In a world filled with temptation and sin, we sometimes conclude that Satan succeeded against God • Salvation, punishment for sin, judgment against Satan, access to the Father and hope of eternal glory results of His death, resurrection and exaltation as Lord • If we choose, we can participate in His victory over Satan now and in eternity

  4. Satan’s Character • Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"

  5. Satan’s Character • Joh 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

  6. Satan’s Character • Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

  7. Satan’s Influence • Joh 8:34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. • Heb 2:15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

Jesus Overcomes All Satan’s Temptations • Mat 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. • Mat 4:2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. • Mat 4:3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

  9. Jesus Overcomes All Satan’s Temptations • Mat 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" • Luk 4:13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.

Jesus Casts Out Demons – Has Greater Power Than Satan • Mat 12:22 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw. • Mat 12:29 "Or how can anyone enter the strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

Jesus Wins Victory Over Satan By The Cross • Col 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. • Col 2:13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

Jesus Wins Victory Over Satan By The Cross • Col 2:14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. • Col 2:15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

  19. We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • Rom 6:17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, • Rom 6:18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. • Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. • Eph 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • Eph 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. • Eph 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

  22. We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • Eph 6:14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, • Eph 6:15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;

  23. We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • Eph 6:16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. • Eph 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • Eph 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, • Eph 6:19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,

We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • 1Co 15:50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. • 1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" • 1Co 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;

  29. We Share In Jesus’ Victory Over Satan • 1Co 15:57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. • 1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
