  2. Background • Current system has been in place since 1989/90 • Outline Business Case produced in June 2001 • Project Board • Established in September 2001 • Acts on behalf of FE Sector • Membership • North East Institute is lead Institution • 3 pilot colleges identified for the new system.

  3. Project Objectives • Fully address MI needs of the college including the unitisation of the curriculum • Funding arrangements for colleges / Statutory Returns • Reduce bureaucratic burden on colleges • Integration • Accessibility for students and staff • Reporting / enquiry capability • VLE developments.

  4. Project Scope • Provide a system to all 17 Further Education colleges in Northern Ireland • Functionality to include • Student Management • Human Resource functionality • Estates Management Software • Interfaces • Upgrade to the current financial systems • The supply of software and hardware to colleges • Support to each college through implementation phase.

  5. Progress to date • Project Support Team • Project Manager appointed in January 2002 • 6 support staff to be appointed soon • 3 colleges identified to be part of the pilot • Project now at end of phase 1 - OJEC stage • Documentation produced • Statement of Requirements • Procurement launch documentation • Project Initiation Document • Guidance on procurement strategy.

Next Steps • Four stages of project • Prepare documentation for procurement • Procurement stage • Implementation • Review/evaluation • Appoint members of support team • Establish working groups during procurement stage • Establish teams in colleges to review current practices • Prepare each pilot college for the implementation.
