  1. 3.1 Graphing Linear Equations

  2. STANDARD form:

  3. Ex 1: Determine whether the equation is linear. a) b)

  4. Graphing w/ Intercepts • x-intercept: The point where the line intersects the X-axis. (x, 0) To Find: Let y = 0 & Solve for x • y-intercept: The point where the line intersects the Y-axis. (0, y) To Find: Let x = 0 & Solve for y

  5. Ex 2: Write in Standard Form then graph each equation using x & y intercepts. a) b)

  6. Using a Table of Values: • Solve equation for y • Make a Table (T-chart) • Choose 3 values for x (–1, 0, 1) • Plot points • Draw Line (w/ ARROWS!)

  7. Ex 3: Make a table of values to graph the line.

  8. Ex 4: The percent of teens who play online games can be modeled by the equation where p is percent and t is time in years since 2000. Make a table of values to graph the equation.

  9. HW – 3.1 pg. 157 # 13 – 19 odds,20, 23 – 33 odds, 35, 42, 49

  10. The SLOPE Formula:

  11. Horizontal Lines: • slope = m = 0 • y-intercept (0, b) • Vertical Lines: • slope = m is undefined • No y-intercept

  12. SLOPE-INTERCEPT form: SLOPE = Y-INTERCEPT (0, b)

  13. Find equation given a graph: • Steps: • Identify y-int (0, b) • Pick any 2 points & count rise/run = m • y = mx + b
