  2. Technology • Technology is growing at a rapid pace in today’s society. The use of technology in schools, classrooms, and with the community can strongly enhance the culture of the school, community connections, and student achievement. For students to be effectively prepared to live in a technologically advanced society and to be prepared for the challenges they will face in high school, college, careers, and everyday life, students need to be taught to use technology and apply it to their activities in and outside of the classroom.

  3. Technology for School and Community Relationships • To keep the school and community connected, an updated website will be created to provide school news and information to parents, grandparents, and students on a regular basis. • To keep students informed of classroom assignments and work missed during possible absences or illnesses, an online calendar will be created, accessible from the school website, and updated on a regular basis by the teachers.

  4. Technology for Student Achievement • Students will be given the Flannagan Tests to prepare for the Virginia State Standards of Learning tests. • Students will be given access to www.solpass.org to prepare for the Virginia State Standards of Learning Tests • Students will be taught to use Powerpoint and Photostory programs to create programs and presentations for class projects and activities. • Students will be taught to use the internet for research, blogging, creating and using wikis, and podcasting for educational purposes.

  5. Technology for Improving School Culture • To improve school culture and enhance community interaction, breakfast and lunch menus will be featured on the school website, which will be maintained by students assisted by the keyboarding teacher. • To improve school culture, The school website will be updated with middle school sports schedules and results, upcoming school events, and photos of events. • To improve school culture, the News Team program will broadcast daily news casts that feature school news and events, weather, local sports, and national sports information. This will be done by utilizing televisions, a stereo, video cameras, computers, and a mixer board. The News Team will also contribute photos, stories, and information for the school website.

  6. Technology for Teachers • Teachers will be given professional development activities to ensure their understanding of technology available in the school. • Teachers will maintain a school-wide wiki for the purpose of exchanging ideas for using technology in their classrooms, as well as ways to improve learning and the achievement levels in the school. • Teachers will incorporate technology in their classrooms on a regular basis, to include Smartboards, Airliners, projectors, Unitedstreaming, and other technologies.
