Key Attributes - Engineering Manager • The following attributes are key to be an effective Engineering Manager: • Broad/sound technical and administrative knowledge • Be available and support your team • Deflect noise from your team • Deal with HR issues • Ability to perform administrative tasks • Strong EQ • Empower your people, do not do all the tasks yourself......let go!! • Focus on strategic direction of your team (the what and not the how) • Resolve conflicts • Delegate and follow up, not dump!! • Think on your feet • It’s all about people • You’re assessed based on how YOUR TEAM perform their job

Advise to Young Engineers • Focus on building a strong broad foundation • Learn the soft skills • Get involve at work and outside of work, it’s an investment • Help others succeed and you will in turn succeed • Build strong networks/relationships • Be sincere and genuine • Be patient, it’s a long journey
