Project Definition • NASA Requests a quote: • To design a heating and ventilation system for an arctic research facility located at the North Pole. • Contains four researchers • Inside temperature to be maintained at 25 °C • Outside temperature is a constant -40 °C • No cooling system needed for obvious reasons

  3. Design Constraints • Ducts formed from rubber coated sheet metal: • Sheet Size: 70” x 90” • Relative roughness: 2mm • Outside Walls 12” thick • Inside Walls 8” • Register location is fixed • Register Size: 6” x 16” • Occupants Require 8 liters of fresh air per minute
