  1. Getting ATP from a Molecule of Glucose All glucose molecules (6 carbon sugar) first go through a process of Glycolysis Which produces Two molecules of pyruvic acid (3 carbon sugar) and net gain of two ATP (4 produced minus 2 to start glycolysis) Pyruvic acid then can go through one of three different processes Aerobic Anaerobic

  2. Aerobic Pyruvic acid Goes to Mitochondria in cell Where Krebs cycle produces 2 ATP Then molecules go through ETC (Electron Transport Chain) Which produces 32 ATP

  3. Cellular Respiration Results 2 ATP from Glycolysis 2 ATP from Krebs Cycle 32 from Electron Transport Chain Total: 36 molecules (ATP)

  4. Anaerobic Alcohol Fermentation Pyruvic acid in yeast cells Produces 2 NAD+ And Ethanol & CO2 Lactic Acid Fermentation Pyruvic acid in animal cells Produces 2NAD+ … and Lactic acid build-up

  5. Lactic Acid Fermentation Results 2 ATP from Glycolysis 2 NAD+ from fermentation Total: 4 molecules (ATP + NAD+)

  6. Alcohol Fermentation Results 2 ATP from Glycolysis 2 NAD+ from fermentation Total: 4 molecules (ATP + NAD+)
