  5. Investigation: Have 2 sticks of different lengths. Compare the lengths of the sticks by lying them down and placing their ends in a line. Are you comparing length? Which stick is long? Which stick is short? Which stick is longer than the other stick? Which stick is shorter than the other stick? Draw and label your sticks. Reflection: How can we describe length? Problem Solving Is the blue stick longer than or shorter than the red stick? Is the red stick longer than or shorter than the blue stick? Measurement and Geometry 2

  6. Investigation: Have 2 sticks of different heights. Compare the heights of the sticks by standing them up on a table and placing their ends in a line. Are you comparing height? Which stick is tall? Which stick is short? Which stick is taller than the other stick? Which stick is shorter than the other stick? Draw and label your sticks. Reflection: How can we describe height? Problem Solving Who is taller? Who is shorter? Jan Betty Measurement and Geometry 2

  7. Investigation: Have 2 objects. Place the objects close together. Is the distance between the objects a short distance? Draw the objects and label the distance between them ‘short distance’. Place the objects far apart. Is the distance between the objects a long distance? Draw the objects and label the distance between them ‘long distance’. Reflection: How can we describe distance? Problem Solving Jill placed a triangle a short distance from a square. What could they have looked like? Measurement and Geometry 2

  8. Investigation: • Have a picture of 3 objects so that 2 objects are a close distance apart, and 1 object is a long distance apart, for example, Which objects have a shorter distance between them? Which objects have a longer distance between them? Draw the objects and label the distances between them as ‘shorter distance’ and ‘longer distance’. Reflection: How can we describe distance? Problem Solving Which tree is a short distance to the house? Which tree is a long distance to the house? Measurement and Geometry 2

  9. Measurement and Geometry 2

  10. Investigation: Find a friend. Compare your height with a friend’s height. Are you short/tall? Are you shorter/taller? Draw yourself next to your friend. Label each other as short/tall and shorter/taller. Reflection: How can we describe height? Measurement and Geometry 2

  11. Investigation: Sit with a friend. Select three objects that are taller than or shorter than yourself. Draw the object next to yourself. Label each object as short/tall, shorter/taller. Reflection: How can we describe height? Measurement and Geometry 2

  12. Investigation: Sit with a friend. Select three objects that are taller than or shorter than your table. Draw the object next to your table. Label each object as short/tall, shorter/taller Reflection: How can we describe height? Measurement and Geometry 2

  13. Investigation: Sit with a friend. Make different lengths and heights using connecting blocks. Make long and short blocks. Make tall and short blocks. Make longer and shorter blocks. Make taller and shorter blocks. Reflection: How can we describe length and height? Measurement and Geometry 2

  14. Investigation: Have a piece of string. Find things which are longer than/shorter than/the same length as the string. Reflection: How can we describe length and height? Measurement and Geometry 2

  15. Investigation: Sit with a friend. Sort objects that are short into one group. Sort objects that are long into another group. Reflection: How can we describe length? Measurement and Geometry 2

  16. Investigation: Arrange objects on a table so that they are a long distance or a short distance from one another. Draw the objects and label short distance/long distance and shorter distance and longer distance. Reflection: How can we describe distance? Measurement and Geometry 2
