  1. TRD GTU – Status Hardware / Commissioning Jochen Thäder Kirchhoff Institut für Physik Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg

  2. Full TRD Readout Chain L1 contribution+ busy • Optical Readout Interface (ORI) • Global Tracking Unit (GTU) • Track Matching Unit (TMU) • Supermodule Unit (SMU), Trigger Generation Unit (TGU) 12x 2.5 GBit/s, 850 nm GTU Racks TGU CentralTriggerProcessor x 8 1 5x TrackConcentr. 6 x TriggerDesign Trackletsonly Half Chamber ORI TTC triggersignals TriggerHandling &Control DCSBoardTTCrx RX 12 fibres ORI Event BufferingDesign HLT DDLSIU Module Tracklets&Raw Data DAQ TMU SMU Stack 5 x GTU Supermodule Segment Front-End Electronicswithin L3 magnet Racks belowMuon System DDL ~100 MByte/sevent data transfer with flow control

  3. Simulated Event Replay • one SD card for simulated event data ofone stack (12 optical 2.5 GBit/s links) • each TMU board capable of 30 GBit/s input stream during optical readout, impossible to produce such data rates withsimulation event data stored on SD cards busy GTU Racks SD CardforsimulatedEvent Data TGU CentralTriggerProcessor Event ReplayControl x 8 1 5x 6 x Half Chamber 12x electrical loopback ORI TX TTC triggersignals TriggerHandling &Control DCSBoardTTCrx RX 12 fibres ORI Multi-Event BufferingDesign HLT DDLSIU Module SimulatedEvent Data DAQ TMU SMU Stack 5 x GTU Supermodule Segment

  4. Event Data / Rates • full data of all 18 TRD supermodules • ~3 MByte / event (uncompressed) • 1 GByte flash memory cards (SD Cards)  ~ 1600 events • very low rate for uncompressed events: ~ 5 Hz • reasons: • maximum rate for flash cards in SPI mode • only one flash card available for the six modules of one stack  5 cards per DDL

  5. Current Status • TRD/GTU hardware / framework (CTP, DAQ)installed / ready • SD Card controller under development(ready about week 47) • Event replay controller (card data → injection into GTU inputs)(ready about week 47) • simulated event data being prepared • 120 SD Cards(expected week 45)
