Women who are subjected to violence should be provided with access to the mechanisms of justice and To seek just and effective remedies for the harm that they have suffered. In a WCC court research on sexual crimes in Malaysia year 2005-2007, we found that 45% of rape cases were dismissed not amounting to acquittal (DNAA). Only 4% of rape cases that went to court trials were convicted

    20. Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) (WCC, SIS, WAO, AWAM and WDC/Empower) in coalition with other womens groups have successfully campaigned: 1. Amendments to the Rape Laws (1988) setting up of women IO for rape cases min rape sentence of 5 years, and max 20 years women IOs accompanying rape survivors to hospitals 2. Amendments to Rape Laws In 2006, inclusion of aggravated rape with an increase max. sentencing of 30 years To expand sexual assault to include the use of any object into the vagina and anus.
