  1. Geothermal Energy By: Trevor Wester Ian

  2. Description • Geothermal Energy is heat from the Earth. • It is a sustainable resource. • It is the heat from the • Earth’s core that is • given off underground.

  3. How it works • Pipes in the ground pull steam into a turbine. • The steam moves the turbine, turning the generator to make power. • Once the steam condenses to water, it is pumped back into the ground.

  4. Who most benefits and where Many countries with cold climates will benefit from this. Iceland generates 90% of its heat from geothermal power. Most geothermal use is along the edges of the tectonic plates and the Volcano chain known as the “Ring of Fire”.

  5. Average Cost of Set Up • A average power plant today charges $0.05 per kWh. • While a geothermal plant charges $0.03 to $0.035 per kWh. A geothermal power Plant can cost from $2-7 million.

  6. Cons • Geothermal power plants have been known to cause earthquakes. • Geothermal power is only renewable if the reservoirs are properly managed. • There are heavy upfront cost.

  7. Pros • Due to the Earth's abundance of heat, it is said geothermal energy is a infinite resource. • Geothermal Energy does not cause significant amounts of pollution.
