  4. Medical Mission with Kirike Be Se Doctors

Medical Mission • Supported KMDA’s Medical Mission to our communities through provision of drugs and appliances plus financial assistance and logistic support (all provided by our kith and kin): • Ogu/ Bolo in August 2011: 735 people were treated, 41 operated on site, 11 more operated in Port Harcourt because more complex • Okrika December 2011: Over 450 people treated • Wakirike UK: £740 + £900, Wakirike USA: $1,000 + $5,000, Sampson Fiberesima: Air-conditioned vehicles, Okrika Nurses Association

  7. Scholarships • sponsoring 27 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (from 5% interest on microfinance loans paid by beneficiaries), funded by all Chapters of Wakirike USA • Given 60 scholarships to high flyers from primary education [funded by Wakirike Washington community grant to Ogoloma community - $2,000] • Medical Scholarship of $1,000 per year [funded by Wakirike North East, USA]

  10. Microfinance & Business Incubation

  11. Microfinance ‘Ama ibi Gose’ Project Small loans of between N10,000 and N30,000 have been administered to 417 women in all nine clans and Ogan Ama since 2010

  12. ICT Project – Okrika Mainland • Collaboration with an NGO – Bressay Outreach • Drop-In Centre and Internet Café • N250k take-off grant from the Coalition • Training commenced with 14 students • Second batch of 25 students • New sponsorship?

Skills Acquisition 32 persons benefited from the first phase of the Coalition's Skills Acquisition Program in these areas: • Catering and Hotel Management at Topearl Catering Institute (6); • Automobile driving at Ace Driving School (5); • Crane Operations at Spamos Training Centre for on/offshore heavy duty services (5); • Computer Appreciation at Bressay Outreach (5); • Fashion and Design at VC Creations (5); • Certificate program in Safety Management at RSUST (6). • The total cost of training this first tranche of applicants is N3,120,000 (three million one hundred and twenty thousand Naira). • A second batch of 20 successful candidates have been selected. • Our partners for this project are Okrika Local Government Council and Wakirike Development Coalition Chapters in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Wakirike USA

  17. Support for Youth Skills Acquisition – • This Skills Centre is still awaiting equipment and take-off

Areas in Development 1.  Advisory and Logistic Support in Technical Tools and Equipment Procurement 2.  Provision of Stipends for trainees/learners who may have to source for accommodation on Okrika Island for the duration of the training3.  Provision of a take-off grant for each graduating trainee which will be in tools and equipment, to begin work in that chosen area, employed or self-employed

Start Up Vocational Areas • Carpentry and Joinery/ Upholstery • Computer Appreciation/GSM Repairs • Masonry- Block Masonry, Concrete Masonry, Tiling • Domestic Wiring, Appliance Maintenance, Instrumentation • Marine- Out board/In board engine maintenance, Fibre Works • Welding Works (Fitting and Fabrication) - Arc Welding, Oxy-Acetylene & Argon welding, Fitting, Stainless Steel Welding • Catering and Confectioneries • Tailoring • Fine Arts- Painting and Graphic Works, Photography.

Worldwide Database Development for Wakirike Youths & Professionals • Establish a worldwide database of Wakirike Professionals and Youths • Establish a Mentoring Scheme for up and coming youths and young professionals • Identify the needs of youths and assist them • Stimulate enterprise in tomorrow’s leaders • Utilise database to develop the Coalition’s intervention programmes and plan policies

We have employed a Coalition Project Manager • Identify credible non-governmental organisations providing services in Wakirike Se. • Establish partnerships with such NGOs that meet agreed criteria • Provide support for capacity development of smaller organisations • Carry out evidence-based community development projects Coalition Administration & Community Links
