Learning Objectives Participants will: • Learn why we participated in the MSL. • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of participating. • Learn about the strategies used and changes made as a result of the findings. • Discuss resources available • Discern strategies for improving their own leadership programs.

  3. Why We Participated Seattle University (SU): • Wanted to understand our strengths & growing edges. • Social Change Model at the root of our work. Loyola Marymount University (LMU): • Opportunity to learn about our students, what experiences impact their leadership development and how we can grow our work. • Social Change Model is at the root of our new leadership programs. • Desire to contribute to a larger body of research.

Advantages • Study focused specifically on college student leadership development. • Social Change Model aligns well with Jesuit mission. • Data on broad diversity of students. • Rich set of comparative data with national and Catholic participants. • Centrally coordinated. • Increased on-campus focus and awareness around leadership before, during and after the study.

  5. Disadvantages • Limited control on instrument. • Significant investment of resources. • Campus IRB hoops to jump through. • Annual study.
