  1. The Rainforestby: Jade and Sophie

  2. What is the rainforest …?? • the rainforest is a vast area full of thousands of trees and animals . The most famous rainforest is found in brazil in south America but you can also find some in Indonesia, Hawaii and Zaire in Africa. The trees in the rainforest (and everywhere else) are very important for our environment as they breath in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen (which we need to live) • the rainforest contains 28% of the worlds oxygen

  3. The rainforest • Rainforests are generally found near the equator where the temperatures are up to 80 degrees celsius • There is also up to 1000 cm of rainfall a year in rainforests • The forest floor is dark and damp.it’s made up of dead leaves and dead animals called Litter The high rainfall and year round high temperatures are great conditions for vegetation to grow in. The many plants encourage a lot of plants insects and animals to make their homes there. This is what makes the rainforest the way it is

  4. Animals in the rain forest Millions of insects, amphibians, birds and animals live in the rainforest some of its inhabitants include………………..

  5. People of the rainforest Not only animals live in the rainforest….over 50 million tribal people live in the worlds rainforests. Many tribal people in the rainforests paint there bodies with bright colours. They live off the land around them and hunt and gather food. Most of them live in large round huts made of leaves, mud, logs and sticks.

  6. People of the rainforest • They also have communal houses made of bamboo and leaves • The men and women in many of these tribes live in separate tents • In a few of these tribes the woman is seen as food once she leaves her hut • But now many of the tribes are being extermenated due to the chopping down of many trees: (

  9. People from the yanomi tribe in the rainforest in brazil eating a meal

  10. The rainforest is a beautiful place full of lots of pretty plants, flowers and some of the most amazing scenery in the world!!! Here are some pictures of the plants and landscapes in the rainforest………….

  11. The amazon river • The amazon river is found in the rainforest in brazil. It is the second longest river in the world . • It is the widest river in the world and contains more water than the Nile, the Mississippi and the Yangtze river put together. It runs right through the rainforest. • It is also home to the pink dolphin :D

  12. What’s happening to the rainforest??? 14% of the earths surface used to be covered by rainforest…..now only 6% is covered. If the rainforest is destroyed nearly Half of all the worlds species of plant and animals could be lost. Rainforests are today only seen by many people for the value of their timber. This causes deforestation

  13. Deforestation • Due to deforestation(the chopping down of trees), the rainforest is rapidly becoming smaller • This is killing many of the wildlife and plant life in the rainforest • Killing the trees decreases the level of oxygen in the world.

  14. Before and after deforestation

  15. What can we do to stop deforestation? Afforestation : the replanting of trees each time you chop one down Recycling: recycling means we wont be wasting what is cut down e.g. we can recycle paper or wooden products. The rainforest is an amazing place and is home to some of the most amazing plants and animals in the world so we should try to look after it and not destroy.

  16. Thank’s for watching!
