  7. MYAA Missouri Youth Adult Alliance - a Statewide coalition that assists Local community efforts in addressing UNDERAGE DRINKING. Its mission is to encourageAdvocates to REDUCE youth access to alcohol by implementing environmental and social policy CHANGE in their communities.

  8. What is advocacy??

  9. ADVOCACY: Is speaking out on issues, of which, you care about; that is, offering your opinion and suggestions for how to improve something to the people who are in control.

  10. Advocacy: takes place on a continuum, takes many forms, and occur at many levels including personal advocacy, advocacy for others, & advocacy in the public interest

  11. How does advocacy look to you?

  12. Lobbying Is the intention of influencing decisions made by legislators and officials in the government by individuals, other legislators, constituents, or advocacy groups. A Lobbyist is a person who tries to influence legislation on behalf of a special interest or a member of a lobby.

  16. Dress Code Please wear neat, clean, business-casual clothing. Remember, you want the legislators to take you seriously! That means that you have to look the part.

  17. Make Sure That You DON’T Look Like THIS: Please NO: Sneakers Flip-flops Jeans T-shirts Messy, stained, ripped, clothes

  18. DO: Be Brief, Be Thorough, Be Gone!

  19. And Don’t Forget… Your legislators are people too! Don’t be afraid to be at ease around them! After all, they work for YOU!
