Pöyry-IGW Witzenhausen Market potentials • Increasing relevance of waste as a resource especially for energy production due to rising energy costs  Waste management and energy sector are growing together (RDF, biomass, anaerobic digestion, subsidies for renewable energy, renewable fuel, energy crops) • Anaerobic digestion is a key technology particularly for the biodegradable waste components • High potential for waste management in many EU states due to EC regulations in place (EU landfill directive, Biomass action plan 2006) • Bio-waste treatment in Germany is currently changing towards the use of the energy content (AD, separation of woody material for combustion) • Public entities are currently the focus/target clients for IGW´s biomass activities (flag ship projects: biomass guidance; biomass potential studies)
