  1. Seed Packets I am learning to solve simple ratio problems by repeated copying. Compare one amount to another. e.g. a packet of sweets contains 2 blue sweets for every 3 green sweets. 2:3

  2. Chocco biscuits contain 2 Dark Chocolate biscuits and 3 White Chocolate biscuits in every pack. Use this information and the table below to work out how many White Chocolate biscuits we will have if we buy ten packs? 7 8 9 10 1 2 3 4 5 6 Packets The first 3 packs have been recorded for you. 2 4 6 Dark Choc 10 12 14 16 18 20 8 3 6 9 White Choc 12 15 18 21 24 27 30 Complete the Dark Chocolate line of the table by recoding how many dark chocolate biscuits we will have in total with every extra pack. Now complete the White Chocolate line of the table. You can see that if we had ten packs of biscuits we would have 20 Dark Chocolate biscuits and 30 White Chocolate Biscuits. The ratio of Dark Chocolate to White chocolate biscuits is 2: 3

  3. A school has 10 packs of tennis balls. 5 tennis balls in each pack are red and 4 in each pack are purple. Use this information to complete the table below. 7 8 9 10 1 2 3 4 5 6 Packets The first 3 packs have been recorded for you. 5 10 15 Red 25 30 35 40 45 50 20 4 8 12 Purple 16 20 24 28 32 36 40 Can you think of a way we could quickly work out how many red tennis balls there are in ten packs if we know the ration of red balls to purple to ball is 5:4? 5 X 10 = 50 Total number of red balls Number of red balls in each pack. Number of packs

  4. Now let’s try and example without a full table. The ratio of red tennis balls to purple tennis balls is 6:4 1 2 10 20 100 Can you think of how we can work out how many red tennis balls there will be in ten packs without adding sixes? Packets 6 12 Red 600 60 120 4 8 Purple 400 40 40 6 X 10 = 60 Now work out how many purple balls there must be. How can we work out how many red tennis balls there must be in 20 packs and 100 packs. 6 X 100 = 600 6 X 20 = 120 Now work out how many purple tennis balls there must be in 20 packs and 100 packs.

  5. Now try these questions on your own. Click again when you have worked out all your answers. 1) Every container has 3 red balls and 2 green balls. There are 20 containers.
