  2. Looks Like • A female raft spider’s body is 2cm long. Their legs are 7cm long.They have eight legs. Raft spiders are dark brown or black with a white or cream stripe along their sides .

  3. Where Lives • Raft spiders live in and around pools and water. The largest raft spider is found in Britain. They also live in other parts of Europe. Some live in ditches. Raft spiders can go underwater for a few minutes.

  4. Web • Raft spiders don’t spin webs. Raft spiders hunt at the water surface lying in waiting for their prey. They grab their prey biting and injecting poison. Then they suck out the guts. They eat insects and small fish.

  5. Babies • Female raft spiders lay several hundred eggs in a silk sac. The sac is 1 cm. wide.The mother carries the babies under her body for about three weeks.She dips underwater every few hours to keep the eggs moist.

  6. Enemies • Raft spider’s enemies are dragonflies, beetles, water stick insects, frogs, fish, and other spiders.

  7. Something Interesting • A raft spider is called a raft spider because it glides along the water like a raft.
