Zakat (3rd Pillar) • 3rd Pillar of Islam • Physical worship • Ramzan-ul-Mubarak • 9th Lunar Month • Starting Time: Darkness of the night begins to vanish just before down. • Ending Time: Sun Set • Sehri • Niyyah: “ I intended to keep today fast of Ramzan.” • “ O Allah1 I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and with the sustenance You have given me, I break the fast”

  2. Conditions of Fasting • Intention • Abstinence from food, drink, merital relations, and Injection • Down to Sunset • Passengers • Ill persons • Children • Old People • Kaffarah for the breach of Saum (60 continuous Saum) Feed 60 poor people twice a day cash equal to Sadqah-e-Fitr to sixty persons

  3. Fasting Not unique to the Muslims Christians, Jews, Confucianists, Hindus etc. O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-- Surah Baqarah

  4. Benefits of fasting Benefits of Saum • Self control • Punctuality • Disciplined Behavior • Sense of spirituality: break the habits of lying, gossiping, wasting time. • Sense of hunger (Feeling the misery of the people) • Blessings of Allah • Balanced and Organized life • Health Improvement

  6. Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. God intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.

  7. 02: 184 • (Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any one of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later.For those who can do it (With hardship) (e.g. an old man), They have (a choice either to fast or not) to feed a Miskin (poor person) ( for every day).But he that will give more, of his own free will,--it is better for him. And it is better for you that you fast, if ye only knew.

Translation of Surah Qadr • We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: • And what will explain to thee what the night of power is? • The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. • Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah’s permission, on every task: • Peace!...This until the rise of morning!

  11. 3. Salat-ul-Traweeh: • Twenty Rakhas, each night • Intention is made for two rakhas • Tasbih Tarwih 4. Aitikaf: • Last Ashra (ten Days) • Mosque • Cut with the world (material) 5. Sadqah-e-Fitr

  12. 5th Pillar Pilgrimage • Literal Meaning: To Intend, the will and desire to visit. • Islamic Terminology: “ Visit to Arfat (Ka’aba) in Ihram Garment. • “Haj is a set of rituals that take place in and around Makkah every year beginning in the 8th and ending in the 13th of the last lunar month, Zilhijjah” • Ihram : special Dress Code • Male: Two Sheets, Shroud, Uncovered Head, Chapples, • Female Iharam • Face should be uncovered even in case of Veil • Holy Ka’aba: First built by Hazrat Adam (AS) then Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Isamil (AS).

  13. 02: 127 • And remember Abraham and Isma'il raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.

  14. 02:128 • Our Lord! make of us Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will), and of our progeny a people Muslim, bowing to Thy (will); and show us our place for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

  15. Hajj-Pilgrimage • Purpose of Simple Dress • Every caste, colour, age, and status come to holy ka;aba reciting: • Physical and Financial Worship • Great Struggle: Mujahiddah • Natural Change: Eats, stays, whatever is available:e.g. In Mina and Arfat stays in tents.

  16. 5th Pillar Pilgrimage Conditions • Muslim • Sane Person, Sound Mind • Adult • Provision/Prerequisite of traveling • Once in lifetime • Hadeeth ” If a person is not hampered by any disease, real necessities or a tyrannical (cruel, harsh) ruler and yet does not perform Hajj, his death and the death of Jew or a Christian are the same)”

  17. Tawaf ( Circumambulation) • Blissful worship • Only possible in Ka’aba • Prayers, fast, zakat, sadaqat are possible every where • 1.Tawaf • 2.Nawafil • See the Holy Ka’aba • Recitation of Holy Quran

Sunnah • Sunnah: a way to be followed, an example t be intimated, a manner of acting, a rule of conduct, a mode oflife. • Islamic Terminology:- “Every saying and action of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), every situation where he approved of an action or saying by someone else and his personal traits and manners”.

  20. Sunnah • The word Sunnah is sometimes used to describes Recommended (Mustahab) actions not obligatory. • In General, when Hazrat Muhammad SAW does a certain action regularly, or gives gladtidings to those who do a certain action, silent approval of some work is considered to be recommended e.g. Praying 2 Rakat before Fajar prayer.

Not ordered to offer 2 rakaas • Grow beards: ordered: Wajib (Required) • Not doing this action considered prohibited and haram. • Sunnah is source of Legislation and Shariah. • It is obligatory to follow the sunnah, • Follow all the orders of Hazrat Muhammad SAW • Refrain from all what he asked us to stay away from

  22. Hadith( Hadees) • Literally means a saying conveyed to man. • Words that Holy Prophet SAW spoke himself. • Sayings of Holy Prophet SAW, his actions , silent approval, his practice • Interchangeable

  24. 3Components • Alsand ( chain of Reporters, transmitters, Muhadith) 1.1. authorities can be few as 1, 2 3 4 or 5. Imam malik-Imam Nafi (Teacher)-Abduallh bin Umar-Holy Prophet • Matan ( Text) e.g. “ Pray as you see me offering prayers” • Taraf (the part, or the beginning Sentence, of the text which refers to the sayings, actions or characteristics of the Holy Prophet SAW )

  25. Classification of Hadeeth • Hadeeth Qudsi: Devine: a revelation from Allah. Hadeeth that contains words from Allah” Allah says. “ Fasting is for Me and I shall certainly compensate it” • Marfu: elevated; a narration form the prophete.g. I heared the Prophet saying • Mauquf: Stopped; a narration from a companion, we were commanded to ---- • Maqtu-Severed- a naration from a successor
