  4. DSA 2011-2012 Admissions • Application Window opened on November 1st • As of 9:30 am today 560 applicants • 275 more than last year at this time

  5. Staffing UpdateClass Size Relief • Re-Posted.5 Science • In process of finalizing “Math Visiting Scholar “to help with small group tutoring and instruction in Middle School Math

  6. DSA News • 8th Grade Vocal Major Randy Ho selected to perform with the National Middle School Honor Choir in Chicago in April • Piano Major, Jiaqi Long, who won First Place in the Junior Division in the Steinway Piano Competition- he will perform with Colorado Symphony next year.

  7. 8th Grade Information Sessions DSA will host two opportunities for current 8th grade families to gain information on the DSA High school program and ask questions- Thursday- January 6th- in the DSA Concert Hall 7:45 am 7:00 pm

  8. Visit to East Coast Arts Schools Visited- Long Island School for the Arts (student choose ½ day or full day program- no performances) Arts High School Newark, New Jersey (high school program- just started MS academy) La Guardia School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts (high school program)

  9. Enrollment Long Island School for the Arts (355) Arts High School Newark, New Jersey (655 in high school- 98 6th grade) La Guardia School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts (2600)

Unique Differences • Long Island School concentrates on theory and history of the art form- one arts teacher per arts area and multiple guest instructors • Arts High School- 88% free/reduced lunch • La Guardia- 15,000 apply- 9,000 audition- all students take academic test to qualify for magnet school entrance in NY City Schools
