  1. Resolving Conflict Created by: Stephani Brooks Augie Student Teacher January 2007

  2. One reason school fights begin is because of conflict between people.

  3. What does the word conflict mean? Conflict is a disagreement between people.

  4. What causes CONFLICT? Conflict can arise whenever people disagree about their: • perceptions • desires • ideas • values

  5. What does the word resolve mean? Resolve means to solve a situation. Conflict resolution is a way of solving disagreements.

  6. Learning how to deal with conflict is a good way to prevent fights. If you know how to resolve a conflict there would be less bullying.

  7. What are some ways we can resolve a conflict? • Keep away from the people, places and things that can cause conflict for you. • Walk away from conflict when it happens. • Delay responding to the conflict. Take time. Move away and cool down. • Reason with the person. • Apologize to the person. It may stop the conflict.

  8. 1. STOP . . .before you lose control of your temper and make the conflict worse. 2. SAY . . .what you feel is the problem. What is causing the disagreement? What do you want? 3. LISTEN . . .to the other person's ideas and feelings. 4. THINK . . .of solutions that will satisfy both of you. If you still can't agree, ask someone else to help you work it out. HOW TO WORK OUT CONFLICTS(Fairly and Peacefully)

  9. Conflict. It's a fact of life. It's a fact in friendships. You develop a friendship with someone, and conflict is sure to occur.

  10. How can we deal with Conflicts in our own friendships? • Talkthe situation over soon after it occurs. • Resolve it the day that it happens. When you don’t see eye to eye, agree to disagree. Tell them that while you may not agree with what they're saying, you still value their friendship.See the other person’s perspective!

  11. Conflicts & Friendships Continued… • Initiate Resolution:Be the first person in a fight to say sorry for your part.Even when you think the other person is wrong, it's not a bad thing to say "I'm sorry you feel that way" or "I'm sorry if I offended you in that way."

  12. Focus on the big picture! Don’t accuse by using the word, “you” Be sensitive: Try to offer solutions, but know when to listen. Be Loving in what you do: Don't go out to "get" the other person, but try to focus on peacefully resolving the disagreement. Conflicts & Friendships Continued…
