  2. Daily Schedule

  3. School begins at 7:50 each day. • Students are considered tardy when they arrive after the 8:00 tardy bell. • Please pay attention to traffic flow through parking lot to assure safety. • Always bring identification with you when signing students out. • Students may not be checked out after 2:15 each day. Please help us by waiting for school to dismiss if you arrive after that time so that staff can prepare everyone for dismissal. It’s crunch time for us from 2:15-2:35. • Please do not drop students off at school prior to 7:15 unless they are going to CARE. Staff is not here to supervise students prior to that time. • Please pick up students from school no later that 3:05. After 3:05, we do not have staff to supervise students. Arrival and Departure

  4. LRSD Attendance Policy If the principal denies promotion, the denial may be appealed to the LRSD Student Hearing Officer (447-3500). The appeal must be requested within 48 hours (2 business days) of the decision. Attendance Policy

  5. Tardy Policy Tardies will begin accumulating on August 22nd for the first semester. This is the first day of the second week of school. Tardies are a Category One offense (Rule 9) in the Little Rock School District handbook. Your child is tardy if he/she is not in his/her seat by the time the bell stops ringing at 8 a.m.School starts at 7:50 a.m. If they don’t arrive until 8 a.m., they are already 10 minutes late. Your child will be counted tardy if he/she is checks out before 2:30 p.m. or is not picked up by 2:45 p.m. Tardy Policy

Carver Magnet Elementary School Uniforms • (Carver Policy Handbook 2016-2017) • Shirts: Long or short sleeved knit shirts with a collar and WITHOUT a logo or other design other than “Carver” in red, white, navy and black, Carver t-shirts and turtlenecks. • Pants: Twill khaki, navy and black • Shorts, skirts, skorts and Jumpers: Knee-length twill khaki, navy and black (knee-length defined as within 3 inches of the knee) • Sweater/sweatshirts/vests: plain red, navy white and black • Shoes and socks: Tennis shoes and closed toe leather shoes are strongly recommended. White, red, navy or black socks are preferred. Dress shoes and open sandals are not appropriate. Shoes should be tied and/or fastened correctly at all times. • Friday Spirit Day: Carver t-shirts and jeans or jean shorts • General Dressing Guidelines: • Pants may not fall/sag below the waistline • Shoulders and stomachs must be covered (No spaghetti straps or tank tops) • No spandex • Knee-length shorts, skirts, dresses, skorts • Shoes should fit well, not create noise in the hall, and be appropriate for playground activities. NO BEACH WEAR (Thongs, flip flops and slippers are not appropriate elementary school wear.) • Standards for uniforms: • Uniform shoes should be tied or fastened correctly at all times. • Uniform shirts should be tucked in at all times. • Belts should be worn on all clothing with belt loops. Students may wear elastic waist bottoms with no belt. • The kindergarten teachers sponsor a used uniform sale in the fall and in the spring. • Girls may wear shorts under jumpers/skirts. • All uniforms should fit properly and be in good repair. • All students will be required to wear uniforms unless the opt out had been established prior to the student not wearing the established uniform. If an opt out form had not been completed, the student will be expected to comply with the uniform dress code. • Friday is SCHOOL SPIRIT Day! Students are encouraged to wear Cardinal Red Uniform shirts or a Carver T-shirt with jeans on Friday. All jeans should be in good repair and free of holes. Uniforms

Carver is sad to announce that Mrs. Townsend, our school nurse, is not with us this year because her family moved to Texas. • Carver will start the year with a part time school nurse as we look for her replacement. • We will not be administering any morning medications for students. If your child takes morning medications, those will need to be administered prior to their arrival at school each day. We appreciate your help with this as we plan for the change to a part time nurse. School Nurse

  8. Prior to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, achievement exam results from the 2015-2016 school term were reviewed by our staff.   9. All staff members maintain classroom grades utilizing Edline. Parents have access to Edline at www.edline.com • An access code is needed to set up access to Edline. Edline codes will be sent home with students as soon as Edline is updated for the 2016-17school year. Edline

  10. The Common Core State Standards describe what students are supposed to know from kindergarten through 12th grade. They define the reading, writing and math knowledge and skills needed at each grade level. These standards offer consistent expectations for student learning across much of the nation. As a result, school transitions after a family moves across district or state lines should be much easier for everyone. Over 40 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Common Core State Standards. The new standards were implemented in grades K-2 in the fall of 2011, followed by grades 3-8 in the fall of 2012. The new standards will be in place in each Arkansas classroom K-12 beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. Common Core State Standards

  11. Each classroom at Carver has their own rituals and routines. Teachers will work with their students to practice these routines the couple of weeks of school. Classroom Rituals and Routines/Expectations

  12. Most classrooms at Carver utilize Class DoJo. Class DoJo is a fun way to reinforce positive happenings throughout the day. Class DoJo/Discipline Plan

  13. Students will be recognized each quarter for earning all A’s or A’s and B’s. Perfect Attendance will also be recognized. Award ceremonies will be held during lunch. Parents and families are invited to attend. We will announce the dates through the Principal’s newsletter. Carver Scholars

  14. Students will be recognized quarterly for reaching their reading goals set by teachers as part of the accelerated reading program at Carver. Those who earn the required points and meet their goals will have an opportunity to participate in the AR Café during lunch. They will also receive prizes. AR Café dates will be announced at the end of each 9 weeks. • An AR celebration will be held at the end of the year to recognize students who reach their year end goal. Accelerated Reader
