ENERGY STAR History • ENERGY STAR is a partnership between the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy • ENERGY STAR is 20 years old in 2012. • ENERGY STAR has resulted in nearly $230 billion worth of savings on utility bills and has prevented more than 1.7 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions

LCPS ENERGY STAR Success • LCPS has documented savings of more than $43.9 million in energy costs and has prevented the emissions of over 780,000 metric tons of CO2e since 1993. • LCPS was awarded the 2012 ENERGY STAR Award for Sustained Excellence. • LCPS was named 2010 & 2011 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. • LCPS earned the 2009 ENERGY STAR Leader recognition for Leadership in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and having a 10% overall improvement in energy performance across all of its buildings.

LCPS Benchmarking Success • LCPS has benchmarked all 89 LCPS facilities in the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager • LCPS has increased its portfolio-wide average score from a 54 in 2004 to a current score of 74. • LCPS has earned 106 ENERGY STAR labels at 42 different buildings. • 7 ENERGY STAR labeled buildings in 2008 • 24 ENERGY STAR labeled buildings in 2009 • 37 ENERGY STAR labeled buildings in 2010 • 38 ENERGY STAR labeled buildings in 2011 • More than 45% of all LCPS buildings have received an ENERGY STAR label.

Lunsford MS • Lunsford MS is the first LCPS school to have been designed to earn the ENERGY STAR • LCPS has earned “Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR” recognition for three school designs • LCPS is continuing to use EPA’s Target Finder tool to ensure all new school buildings are designed to be top energy performers.

  18. 2012 Sustained Excellence • Loudoun County Public Schools instructs more than 66,000 students at 12 high schools, 14 middle schools, 52 elementary schools, a technology center, and an alternative education school that together cover more than 9.6 million square feet. • LCPS received Sustained Excellence recognition for its continued commitment to increasing energy efficiency through the creation of an energy savings culture among students, staff, and parents.
