Proclamation 2014 • The State Board of Education (SBOE) issued Proclamation 2014 in April 2012. • Set to occur this November, 2013. • Proclamation 2014 is available for download. • Adopted materials will be available in the 2014-2015 school year. The term of the contract is for 8 years unless or until the adoption cycle is revised.

  3. Subject Areas in this adoption Only CTE classes that receive science credit are included.

Textbook Adoption Procedures • House Bill 623 • Makes it a crime for a school trustee, administrator, or teacher to accept a gift, favor, or services that is given to the person or person’s school: • That might reasonably tend to influence a trustee, administrator; or teacher in the selection of a textbook, and • That would not be lawfully purchased with funds from the state textbook funds • Therefore, ECISD personnel will not accept any such inducements. ECISD personnel will accept only sample review materials and such accompanying materials that are approved by the State of Texas for consideration by school districts.

  6. Procedures for Publishers Are campus presentations allowed ? NO Publisher representatives may explain the specifics of the program to the campus representative serving on the textbook committee who will inform the staff of its content. • When can publisher representatives meet with you ? • Only with your CONSENT can a publisher meet with you. • If you agree, at what time can they meet with you? • Only during your conference period or afterschool • Publishers will be able to showcase their instructional materials at the District Textbook Hearing.

  7. Samples from Publisher Publisher representatives may deliver sample textbooks, electronic books and/or Online Instructional Materials to each campus. Important to find a location for materials • 1. Set up materials in a common area where they can be viewed by all teachers / administrators. • 2. Has viewing opportunities for everyone before, during and after school.

  8. Opportunities for Presentations by Publishers Campus presentations by publisher representatives are not allowed. All publishers are invited to participate in district hearings to be scheduled by the district. Instructional materials can be presented at? • 1. District Hearing. Saturday January 18, at Robert Vela High School from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm • 2. Off campus presentations - You can attend a presentation at a venue outside of campus / district after school or weekend.

Campus Staff Responsibilities • Who needs to examine, review, analyze, and evaluate these instructional materials ? • All teachers & Administrators • Why ? • To select the best instructional materials that will • Meet the needs of our students, • Help increase district scores and • Ensure are aligned with State test / STAAR test.

District Textbook Selection Committee Timeline • Schedule of Events • 2013-2014 • Sept. 16: Send memo to Principals to select committee members • October 3: Principals nominate elementary & secondary teachers to District Textbook Selection Committees: Science: K – 12, Math: K – 8 and • Technology Applications: K – 12 • October 1, 2013: Prepare & Submit Board Agenda Item for Board to approve committees • October 8, 2013: School Board approves Recommendation of Textbook Selection Committee • November 5, 2013: Send memo to committee members to inform that the board has approved • November 2013: State Board of Education approves Instructional Materials/Textbooks under • consideration for the 2013-2014 Adoption Process • November 21, 2013:District Textbook Adoption Orientation Meeting.   11. Timelinefor District Meetings for Selection Committee The selection committee will meet from November through March. During this time a decision for instructional materials for 2014-2015 school year should be decided. Final Vote by committee will be in February, 2014. When should contact between publishers and campus staff end? February 6, 2014.

  14. Timelinefor District Meetings for Selection Committee February 10 - 19, 2014: VOTING to select Textbooks/Instructional Materials from 4:15 p.m. – 6:00p.m. March 25, 2014: School Board Approves Textbook Selection recommended. April – TBA- Selection of ancillary materials.

  16. Review of Instructional Materials TEA required for publisher to submit electronic samples for review but did not require any specific platform therefore Region One created a web portal to accommodate district access for viewing of all Instructional Materials submitted to Region One.
