Our Official Mission To promote a vital economy to improve the overall quality of life for residents of Rowan County Established in August 1984 by the County of Rowan, the City of Salisbury, and the incorporated municipalities in Rowan County to act as a unified force on matters affecting economic development to serve as the lead agency for “client handling” and product development in Rowan County.

  4. The Bottom Line Our Mission can be broken down into two basic goals: To keep the jobs we have, and to get more – through retention and recruitment To get more investment in our County. Close the Deal

About RowanWORKS Four FTE Staff – Director, Project Manager, Marketing Specialist and Office Manager Funded by the County and all Municipalities County is the largest funder followed by the City of Salisbury and the municipalities Board is appointed proportionately by funders Have secured, and look to secure additional private sector & external funding / grants

  9. Why Does It Matter to Municipalities? A community without jobs exports it talent, wealth, and eventually, residents. Communities cannot survive on residential tax base alone. Without a strong non-residential tax base, the cost of providing public services exceeds the tax revenue available Non-residential tax base growth brings revenue, and positive economic activity, new jobs and spreads the COGS. The only viable way to maintain public services and reduce the tax burden for our citizens is to grow the tax base.

Retail Identified over 1300 retail companies looking to expand in North Carolina Approximately 85 have similar requirements to demographic information of Salisbury We are both working with the real estate community and independently submitting locations to these companies These same resources are being made available to DSI, to assist them in their efforts.

FY 2014-15 Funding Request In 2011, we cut our funding requests by 10% across the board Since then, we have asked our funding partners to slowly return to the adopted, tax based funding formula By exhausting our unreserved fund balance, we have been able to maintain our current level of services, through this fiscal year

  26. FY 2014-15 Funding Request Thank you for your continuous support We are respectfully requesting $78,472 to fund our operationsnext fiscal year
